Today we’d like to introduce you to Charyl Williams.
Hi Charyl, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been into beauty since I was a little girl. I remember teaching myself to braid (mimicking my mom’s style of hair) around age five, and I was styling my own hair by age nine. I later become a licensed cosmetologist after graduating college, yet I had to end my cosmetology career, after six years, as a result of developing a chemical allergy. I’m now a Beauty Adornment Guide (Independent Paparazzi Consultant), continuing my passion for beautifying others. Through my online boutique, I offer people boldness and beauty through stylish jewelry to sweeten their style on Zoom or in any room.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a cosmetologist was not easy and having to transition from cosmetologist to Beauty Adornment Guide has also not been easy. First, I had to mourn the loss of my career (as a cosmetologist) after putting years into building it. Then, with having a chemical allergy, I’ve had to really learn to grant myself grace because although I operate my business from home, it’s really challenging to show up as my best self when I’m experiencing chronic fatigue as a result of my health condition.
As you know, we’re big fans of Adorn With Charyl. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The purpose of Adorn With Charyl is to empower women to celebrate their overall beauty and their strength as CEOs of their own lives. There is a CEO in all of us, and it’s up to us to take charge of our lives and shape it into the masterpiece we envision it to be. I’m an example of being the CEO of my life every time I show up for my business, which was created in the spirit of resilience because I set out to be a cosmetologist. Yet, I developed a chemical allergy that prevents me from practicing in that industry. I’ve found a way to continue my passion and to continue showing up in my purpose of beautifying and galvanizing others through stylish and affordable jewelry.
What sets me apart from others is, I am a creative, an artist, and have done it all from hair to nails, to lashes, to makeup, to working retail in the accessory department. I am not new to beauty and style, I am true to it.
I am most proud of what my brand represents, which is never giving up and moving forward no matter what.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the importance of caring for myself physically, mentally, and, most of all, spiritually. I can make progress toward my goals; however, the progression will not be continuous if I don’t take care of me. I share more details about my cosmetology career in my upcoming book titled Phenomenal Faith: Here Because I Was Healed. It will be available on Amazon as early as Oct.25th. Eleven other women and I share our stories.
