Community Highlights: Meet Malaysia Turner of The Key Turner Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malaysia Turner.

Hi Malaysia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Stockbridge, GA and graduated from Eagle’s Landing High School. The rigor of my classes in high school made my college experience at Georgia State University a breeze. I graduated from The GSU in 2014 with a BBA in Marketing. A few months before my college graduation, I had decided that I wanted to be an Anesthesiologist-with no medical class in sight. I applied for so many Pre-Med Post Bac Programs and was denied by every single school. My tenacity wouldn’t let that defeat me, so I kept pushing and began taking Pre-Med courses at Georgia State. After only a couple of semesters, I was over it. I decided I was finished with school for a while and started working a Promotional Marketing job where I invaded people’s space in Walmart to try and sell them things. Hated it.

From there, I began working as a Life Insurance Agent, which was actually fun and rewarding for a while. I learned so much working there, but I needed more stability. So, I started working as an Executive Administrative Assistant in the Claims Department of a car insurance company. Two years later, I was laid off along with dozens of others. During my tenure at the car insurance company, I earned my real estate license and began my journey as a part-time Real Estate Agent in 2017. A few months after the car insurance job ended, I began working as an Executive Administrative Assistant for a commercial real estate investing company where I assisted in the Asset Management, Accounting, Timber, and Property Fund departments. In March of 2021, I resigned and became a full-time Real Estate Agent. Now I have my own business, The Key Turner Real Estate, LLC, and I am the Vice President of Sales at The Atlanta Key Firm, which is a boutique real estate brokerage in Atlanta, GA. It took a few jobs and real estate brokerages to get to where I am today, but I couldn’t be more happy with my decisions thus far.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest obstacles was myself. Yes, it’s tough getting laid off, being miserable working jobs that aren’t really fulfilling my spirit and losing people along the way, but it was more difficult to battle myself internally. Subconsciously, I put myself in an imaginary box for several years. In that box with me were fear and doubt. It took me some time to learn my place in this world, but I have a good understanding of what that is now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a real estate professional/advisor for buyers, sellers, and investors of all price points. Currently, I specialize in residential real estate, but I am expanding into commercial real estate as well. I have been serving all of Metro Atlanta since 2017. My honesty, attention to detail and hands-on approach to business sets me apart from others. I care about my clients, and I’m not satisfied until they get exactly what they want. I enjoy educating my clients on the home-buying and home-selling processes. When they understand what’s going on, it makes the closing process easier for everyone involved. I am still building my brand, but it makes me proud when people hear or see “The Key Turner” and automatically know she is getting this deal to the closing table. It feels really good to get great reviews from my clients and other agents as well.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was extremely intelligent and independent. I remember being an over-achiever and very goal-oriented as well. I was wise beyond my years but also really silly and funny which hasn’t changed much. According to my mom, I was sassy and didn’t like people looking at me or touching me. Lol. Because I was the only child in the house, I looked forward to playing with my cousins on the weekends and having sleepovers. Growing up, I enjoyed modeling, singing, and acting. I was shy in real life, but the runway brought out a completely different side of me. I was shy in real life, but the runway brought out a completely different side of me. Looking back, the woman I am now is the exact same girl on that runway.
