Community Highlights: Meet Shayla Lawson of Body Like Yours

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Lawson.

Hi Shayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was an athlete growing up and was always active. I played basketball all through grade school. I was also involved in several extra-curricular activities. Staying in shape was never an issue for me…until I got to college and got considerably less active. So as the story goes, I put on the “freshman 15” (and someone else’s, haha) and was looking for a way to get rid of it. So I lost that weight but found that I put it right back on over the next year. The regaining of the weight and wanting to figure out how to lose it for good led me to getting my bachelor’s in exercise science. I wanted to understand wellness better and the body’s response to movement. I paired that with becoming a certified nutrition coach and launched Body Like Yours.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha, It’s most certainly not been a breeze. There’s been quite a bit of trial and error in my own health journey in coupling the basics of health and wellness with what works best for my lifestyle. I’ve spent many years finding that sweet spot for myself. From the business side, there’s always the challenge of refining the skill of taking what you have and the knowledge you possess to create a product/service that sells. Thankfully, I’ve been blessed enough to have a supportive and knowledgeable set of mentors that have helped me navigate the overly saturated world of fitness coaching. I can finally say that I’ve found my niche and the group that I serve best, which is determined women who are looking for a way to balance busy lifestyles with getting and staying fit.

Body Like Yours is all about embracing who you are at any stage in your health journey and empowering you to believe in yourself, all while educating you on how to create a healthy lifestyle that works. What sets BLY apart is that it’s not some cookie-cutter, quick-fix, fad diet. It is truly a lifestyle specializing in connecting the physical goals with the mental focus and behavioral consistency necessary to achieve long-lasting results. I’m most proud of how my clients are learning to love themselves and celebrate the wins in their lives outside of what they are seeing in the mirror. I’m helping them to hone in on the journey instead of a destination or goal. In doing that, they are seeing themselves achieve their weight or body goals “faster” than they realize because it’s not their primary focus. I want readers to know that they aren’t broken or the “exception” to the rule. If they want that healthy and strong physique, they can have it. It just takes dedication and discipline along with a supportive and knowledgeable coach to get there, which is exactly what Body Like Yours offers.
