Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Walker.
Adrienne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey roughly five years ago when I picked up my first sewing machine. It started off as a hobby because I wanted to make clothes that fit my body type and looked good against my skin complexion. As the years went by, I finally decided that I wanted to share my gift with the world instead of keeping it all to myself. After going back and forth in deciding what I wanted to start with, I decided to make my first adjustable satin-lined backless cap. I love caps and I would normally have to braid down my hair or have a low puff in order to wear one. There were some days where I didn’t want to do any of that. It would have been easier to put on a cap and go. I thought to myself, how cool would it be to have a cap with the back panels removed. That way I can still have my hair out in the back and still look put together. LOL!!
Also, I thought it would be nice if it was adjustable to where I can take it off and on with ease. Because I’m a sewer, I figured I could probably make a baseball cap myself. Well, I did!!! The first cap I made was too small. After making the necessary adjustments, the second cap came out perfect. The cap provided three things I was looking for – a satin-lined protection, being adjustable because my head size is beyond normal (lol), and it was backless. This is where FIT BY A.D. came to life. From there, I searched for vendors, which led me to where I am today. The original name of my company was A.D. Collections By Adrienne Nicole. After launching my business, I realize saying that was name was tongue twister so I started doing business as FIT BY A.D. It was simple and sweet. My company was launched on October 5, 2020 with the goal of protecting and promoting health hair for men and women of all hair styles. We offer two different styles of backless caps, one with a buckle backing and another with a snapback backing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I can honestly say it has been a smooth road but there were definitely things that I have learned throughout this process. First, make sure google is your best friend. You can find pretty much anything there if you take the time to research. The questions you may have are probably already answered. Second, pick a business name that is easy to reminder while also considering your website, LLC and trademark. You want to make sure all three of these are available before you are married to your business name. Third, don’t rush the process. Take the time to understand every aspect of your business and enjoy the ride.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Senior Auditor for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in Atlanta, GA. I have been with my company for over 12 years. Also, I have my Certified Financial Government Manager certification. GAO has been the only job I had since graduating with both my Bachelors and Masters In Accounting from Clark Atlanta University. I still enjoy every moment of it. Outside of my career, I launched FIT BY A.D. in the middle of COVID-19 while planning to drop a sewing app in 2021. What set me apart from others is my willingness to not give up. I will just take a different road to get there while helping others along the way.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People would be surprise to find out that I enjoy working with my hands (i.e. building things) and playing video games in my spare time. Both of those things are a great way for me to relieve stress.
