Conversations with the Inspiring Mia Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a 23-year-old, full-time traveler sharing my experiences one passport stamp at a time!

Being that I have been to 15 countries and 36 states, I am constantly searching for new ways to explore the world and create opportunities that are more accessible to People of Color who aspire to experience a similar lifestyle. My ultimate goal is to create a network of Global Citizens from every corner of the world.

Studying and interning abroad in Cape Town, South Africa for two months instantly sparked my love for travel & serving others who came from similar backgrounds like myself. I no longer viewed the world and it’s inhabitants the same. I began and have continued to research the demographic of travelers in the U.S. and abroad. It was there, I found my passion to educate, inspire, and empower People of Color to get out and see the world!

The beginning stages of creating a platform where I was credible enough to speak on such things was a bit challenging at first. Money, time, and support played a MAJOR ROLE. I had all the ideas but, very little resources to execute my plan… so I became a Flight Attendant.

My career has allowed me to travel at little to no expense and document my experiences while doing so. I literally took knowledge (and still do) from ANYWHERE I could. Whether it be Instagram, blogs, or travel sites I am constantly searching for new ways to be an innovator in an overly- saturated industry. I live by the motto “Create your lane and stay in it”. It makes things a hell of a lot easier when you focus on you, your craft, and build upon that.

Although, I am nowhere close to where I’d like to be I know my efforts have not been in void. I witness the lives I am changing and that brings me great JOY! I know that if I can just reach ONE then they’ll eventually reach thousands, even millions. If you haven’t heard about me… I can promise you will. Let’s talk travel! www.thatmiagirl.com

15 countries and 36 states is no small feat!  I’m sure it’s been fun, but has the road been smooth? What were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? Any advice for those just starting out?
Smooth (lol), not quite the words I would use. There have been many nights of tears, screams, and “I honestly wanna give up”. But I never have and I never will (unless it stops being fun).

My advice to other young women is, If you can DREAM it then YOU CAN DO IT. STOP waiting for other people to see the vision that God placed in you! I think one of my biggest challenges during this journey has been “self-doubt;” not trusting my own abilities to thrive and succeed with ALL odds stacked against me. As a woman trying to make a name for herself it’s difficult, being black adds pressure times ten… but that’s literally my GREATEST ATTRIBUTE. I am a black woman. Which means there’s literally nothing I can’t do!

Tell us more about what you do, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I educate People of Color on ALL things travel and how to do so more affordably. From how I budget and save to cover the expenses of my trips, to obtaining a passport and the process, to finally booking that flight and creating an itinerary once you reach your final destination.

I am most proud of my growth and accomplishments. I have done more in 23 years than some people have done in a lifetime!

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Stay focused & DREAM BIG! Don’t settle. If there isn’t a field or space for you, CREATE IT!
