Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianne Jones.
Hi Adrianne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working with older adults in 2014 when I graduated from Georgia State University’s Gerontology Institute. I was so excited to start a new career and be able to work with a population that I adore! I love my seniors! My first job was working as a case manager, and I loved it, but I realized that most of the seniors on my caseload needed more resources.
These seniors were not being served properly because there were many gaps in service delivery. Also, they did not know what to look for and where to look. When I left my position as a case manager, I set out to fill the resource gap by connecting seniors and caregivers with those community services that could make a difference. Primarily, I started consulting with businesses that served older adults and caregivers. Six years later my business has grown, and I have a large diverse clientele, working with university research projects, program implementation, and special government projects.
In May 2022, I launched the, the “GERO-Juice”, a senior-focused radio show for ALL ages that brings awareness to common health and social issues affecting the aging process and older adulthood. My show is the community resource hub connecting my audience to the best professionals in the aging network nationwide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road most definitely has not been easy or smooth. I’ve had to overcome many challenges that are expected when you are an entrepreneur. For example, starting out I did not have the money for marketing, so I had to make the most of any given situation. Boots to the ground was my marketing strategy! I would walk in every door possible and tell them who I was. At that time, I didn’t know what I needed so it was a lot of trial and error. I would say the most challenging part of growing this business was knowing my services were needed and getting people to see that need.
There were many times I would get my hopes up for a “big” meeting, anticipating it would be productive, and then the outcome would be the opposite of what I expected. Now, the senior industry has completely changed, and it seems like I cannot stop my phone from ringing. Believe it or not…, older adults are a hot topic and an even hotter consumer market!!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Simply. I am a senior advocate, servant leader, and community liaison. My mission is to connect older adults with the resources they need to remain in their homes and communities. My goal is to educate not only older adults, but their neighbors, families, and friends on how to better support the aging population. We are all aging, and at some point, I and others will need access to good resources. I believe my passion and dedication sets me apart from other businesses like my own.
I like to tell people this is not a 9-5, there are no off days. Like an athlete, I am a community gerontologist on and off the field. I am most proud of my radio show, the “GERO-Juice”, because I know I bring a new flavor of content and creativity to the airwaves. I am so excited about the growth and expansion of this show along with the additions of new products and merchandise. I want readers to know that my brand is honest and every piece of it comes from the heart.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
One thing I learned from the pandemic is that at any given moment the world can shut down. You have to always have a pivotal plan, especially in business. COVID also taught me that tomorrow’s plans are never promised, love on your family, friends, and those closest to you even if it is just a text or a smile.
