Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Taylor.
Angel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Temple University in 2015 with a B.A. in Media Studies & Production in the Klein School of Media and Communications. In the summer of 2014, I began my career in radio as a promotions and programming intern at Wired 96.5 and 92.5 XTU. I was also offered time on-air on Friday evenings with Buster on Wired 96.5. During the fall semester of my senior year with Temple, I was accepted into their “Study Away: Los Angeles” program. From there, I was granted the opportunity to work with amazing companies and individuals in the entertainment and media industry. I had the pleasure of working with Entertainment Scoop as a red carpet reporter, AwesomenessTV as a Hollywood Intern, and I also served as an assistant to the Kardashian and Jenner family while working directly with Kris Jenner.
After moving back to Philadelphia in the Spring of 2015, I spent some time working with Penn Sports Network as a sideline reporter for Women’s Field Hockey and Women’s Basketball at The University of Pennsylvania. Once sports season ended for UPenn, I moved to Stamford, CT to join NBC Sports Group to work as an Associate Producer for the 2016 Rio Olympics. This opportunity was life-changing and granted me a 2016 Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Trans-Media Sports Coverage as an associate producer of the Rio Olympics.
Shortly after returning to Philadelphia from Connecticut, I was approached by my brother-in-law, Kevin Strickland, to launch a radio station and flagship podcast show. From there, ‘All of the Above’ Podcast was birthed and began in February 2017. ‘All of the Above’ is an hour-long internet radio podcast based in Philadelphia, PA; hosted by myself and executive produced and co-hosted by my brother-in-law, Kevin. The podcast covers current events, entertainment, news, pop culture, and politics. Our mission is to promote and highlight local creatives, independent artists, entrepreneurs, authors, and Black-Owned / local businesses in the Philadelphia area and those in surrounding cities/states (NJ, NY, MD, and D.C.). ‘All of the Above’ is a hub for individuals to share their stories with an audience and to have their brand highlighted. Through ‘All of the Above’ I have also branched out into coordinating virtual and in-person celebrity interviews and red-carpet events.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it has been a smooth road and we have found our lane, branding, and our target audience. The only obstacles that I have faced with my podcast specifically has been some individuals canceling the day of their interview and not having respect for our time. However, we have a long list of individuals who are excited and eager to have an opportunity on our show and we have been fortunate enough to have people accept our invitation with limited advance notice.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a podcast host and I am known for providing a platform for local Philadelphia independent artists, entrepreneurs, authors, etc. to share their stories and their brand. I am most proud of the ability of consistency, as ‘All of the Above’ has recently passed its 6th anniversary in February. What sets my podcast from others is that we do not charge an interview fee and are genuinely invested in supporting Philly talent. I am also proud of my networking abilities that landed me opportunities to cover celebrity red carpet premiere events, as well as virtual and in-person celebrity interviews. To know that I made this happen on my own through my own platform showed me that anything is possible and that I don’t need over 10,000 followers or work for a famous or well-established brand/company to receive amazing opportunities.
Last but not least, I am proud of my podcast leading me to my new family…my husband! I met my husband, Tyrell, within the first five months of launching our podcast. He is a music producer and hip-hop artist (as well as a host of other amazing things as he is a great realtor and entrepreneur), and we featured him on our show to discuss his music career and upcoming projects. We became good friends afterward and stayed in touch. A year later, we began dating and got married in 2020! From there, we had a handsome baby boy in 2021 and have been enjoying the new life we have created together. Fun Fact: He is also the voice and creator behind our podcast theme song!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Within the next five years, I see my podcast being the “it” factor and the number one hub for people to visit during their promo tours and press runs in Philly. I envision my brand becoming a household name that is not only recognized and popular in Philadelphia but also popular and acknowledge throughout the U.S.
