Today we’d like to introduce you to Bj Thompson.
Hi Bj, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born to a teenage mother and father who left school in the 10th. I am the oldest of 3 children and grew up in the height of gang culture in Dallas Texas.
After graduating from High school and moving 1 hour away from college, I realize that 99% of the skills I developed as a child only applied to the environment I was from, not in.
The journey to learning how to thrive not simply survive, meant learning the critical skills of life one by one. As I’ve gathered these tools for myself I never forgot about the community and from which I was from.
In 2008, I started the director of a growth and development 501c3 nonprofit that focuses on resourcing individuals & families with growth related tools.
I have lived in Atl since 2015 and honored to have been a mentor at Morehouse and also a resident of Collier Heights.
We have coaching programs that provide support in:
-Holistic health
-College age development
-Personal development
-Professional development
We also have a philanthropic program that provides Orphans with food, water, clothing, medical, education, & shelter.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The greatest struggle along the way is growing up in an environment of survival, learning the skills to thrive, & keep a rhythm of giving back to the least of these
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the founder and Executive director of Build A Better Us.
I am most known for being a leaders leader and holistic transformation coach.
I am most proud that we have created a line of programs that bring clients results. And that we are providing essential aid for orphans.
What sets me apart is we are a faith based growth and development org that provides jaw-dropping results, while being compassionate.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t call it luck but growing up in a volatile environment but having a healthy family, set the tone of my life.
I’ve also been blessed to have started a movement with my friend Lecrae that’s influenced millions of people around the world to seek a Higher power for change.
