Conversations with Casey Krevinghaus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Krevinghaus.

Hi Casey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in theatre! I have always loved singing and acting and becoming different characters! I got into it at a young age-due to my dad taking my brother Josh and me to see Broadway shows whenever we would visit him. Damn Yankees was the first Broadway show he took us to see, and I just fell in love! He got me the “Damn Yankees” show soundtrack with BeBe Neuwirth, and I listened to that nonstop and would sing along and perform along with it around the house, haha. When I was 11 years old, My dad took me to acting classes in the summertime to the American Dance and Drama studio in Flushing, NY, where I took acting classes from Mark Weston. He was an amazing teacher, and his classes were incredible! I loved learning monologues and performing them. It was something that just clicked. When I was 14, I auditioned for and attended the Professional Performing Arts School in NY my freshman year of high school and lived with my dad and stepmom in Flushing. I commuted to the city every day by express bus and spent half of the day on academics and the other half on my performing art- which was musical theatre. It was an incredible experience that helped inspire and cultivate my love for performing! I moved back to TN to live with my mom, stepdad, and siblings my sophomore year and continued to be involved in theatre, show choir, and basically any activity that involved singing or acting. I loved auditioning, rehearsing and performing- all of it! The process is addictive and motivating. I went to college at the University of TN, Knoxville, and got my degree in theatre and continued performing professionally.

Eventually, I found another aspect of the industry I enjoyed, which was film. My husband and I had gotten cast in an episode of Homicide Hunter on Discovery ID, and one of the producers reached out to see if we could refer more actors their way for a number of other crime re-enactment shows they were producing. Eventually, they had a spot open up in their casting department, and I was encouraged to apply and landed the job! I had so much fun casting! I cast Snapped Killer Couples from 2013-2015 and #KillerPost. I learned and cultivated my knowledge on some of the industry tools needed for casting and continued to cast other projects on an as needed basis for the film and tv while working in the service industry. In 2014, My husband and I decided to start our own LLC which started as ” Southeastern Casting,” and eventually we changed it to Krevinghaus Entertainment LLC to be more encompassing of all of the entertainment services we provided. We had our eyes set on Georgia for a long time since the opportunities were abundant in the film industry. We finally made the big move in 2017, which led me to another platform of my entertainment path- emceeing music bingo and dj’ing. Working a 9-5 was not for either me or my husband, Levi. We prefer to be performing in any way we can. I began bartending at Truck & Tap and I let the owners know about a super fun game called “Singo” that was a hit at the restaurant I used to work at in Maryville, TN (Barley’s). Singo took off, and I started hosting it at three of their locations. I was motivated to depart from using the Singo-branded materials and do everything myself.

So, during covid, I learned how to cut, create, and make my own music bingo games and cards. That gave me the freedom to be super creative and really play music to the crowds we were entertaining. It allowed us the freedom to host wherever we want and book private parties and events without having to worry about a middleman. I book myself and my husband (when he is available) out each week hosting music bingo. We host for private parties, neighborhoods, country clubs, amongst the regular music bingo gigs I have daily, at public venues. We divide and conquer very often, haha! I also learned how to DJ during covid! Levi encouraged me to take that on because I love music so stinking much, it only made sense to add it to the repertoire! We have built a reputation based on word of mouth and are so freaking ridiculously thankful and humbled to have been getting as many gigs as we have!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles are my friends. They are an indicator I am getting to the really exciting chapter of the book —and that I have nervous belly. When you are a performer, you get used to hearing no a lot and there are seasons when you are submitting and not getting any work. Right now, the season is good, and we have been so blessed and fortunate to have as many gigs as we have had. I tend to forget to schedule myself days off, and honestly, that is amazing. I tell people all the time, I am just happy to be here, and it is true. I cannot express my gratitude enough for our clients who continue to book us and for our “people” that come out to music bingo, bring their friends, and keep sharing!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer and an actress and really love entertaining people and infecting them with joy. I have been hosting music bingo now for about 6 years. Guests at these events tend to know me for my energy (apparently, I have a lot of it) and my ridiculous dancing, and the fun playlists I make. At any given music bingo event I host, I am shamelessly dancing my tuchus off like I was auditioning for Footloose haha. I love interacting with the guests and saying silly things that make them giggle. The music makes me do it! I custom-make each of the playlists with the guests in mind, and they each have different themes and take hours to create. I have over 50 playlists I have made, and the list is ever-growing. When people sing along it is affirming that I did it right. One of my favorite compliments I get is when a guest asks “when the next show is going to be.,” or they say how much they “enjoyed the show.” just gets me in the goo goo berries, if you know what I mean. The fact that the guests think of it as a “show” and not just a trivia-type game has really been motivating and encouraging to me as an entertainer. That is the type of experience we want to provide.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We know nothing is ever promised, so you have to be grateful and take every opportunity you can! Believe in yourself despite the challenges you face, and when you can’t see a clear path, make one!
