Conversations with Catalina Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catalina Rodriguez. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Catalina was born in Bogota Colombia. She graduated in business administration and practiced her profession in the area of residential construction, working for almost 20 years with recognized construction companies in Colombia. She acquired the necessary experience, became passionate about the decoration and renovation of spaces, and in 2006 she came to the United States with the purpose of continuing her studies. However, her plans changed shortly after starting a family and raising her two children. It was at that time that she and her husband made the decision to postpone their projects and dedicate themselves to their children. However, as time progressed, she felt inspired to resume her professional dreams, so she continued with her studies and became certified as an Interior Designer.

She later created Alive Design LLC, a company dedicated to meeting their client’s needs to renovate their spaces, understanding the need to capture their ideas with her experience, and leading them to transform and give life to their houses turned into homes.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is always a challenge to understand what the specific needs of each of my clients are, I have to adapt my style to what each person or family needs. For this, an analysis must be made not only of their needs but also of the way in which a space adapts to the personal taste of each one. At Alive Design, we take this challenge further, always presenting the best option and working hand in hand with our suppliers so that the final product exceeds the expectations of what my clients want.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My style is between rustic and classic, I usually use wood in my projects as well as neutral colors. That combination between dark and neutral helps any space look incredible regardless of the season of the year. I always print my stamp on all my projects, although I understand that there may be clients who like a minimalist style or who are more traditional, in any case, we must give an identity to the space, understanding that not all people are the same.

What matters most to you? Why?
What Matters The finished look needs to be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Design is a science, after all, as well as an art. Addressing each of the elements that make up every design can enhance a room’s best features, compensate for any flaws, and create an interior that satisfies the eye, the sense of touch and fulfills its practical role. Alive Design understands interior design needs to provide a soul to a building, making it more functional, pleasant and liveable.
