Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Simon.
Hi Deborah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in St. Thomas, USVI and have previously lived/worked in New York and Virginia. I have a BFA in Communication Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. I moved to Georgia in the summer of 2004 and later that year became a flight attendant. I love working with people and traveling, so I thought I’d combine the two. I only intended to only do it for a year, but after 15 1/2 years as a regional flight attendant, I retired and became a full-time real estate agent.
I passed the real estate exam in November 2019 and immediately joined eXp Realty LLC. Not long after that, I joined a team in South Atlanta where I had some amazing mentors and formed a solid foundation of the real estate industry. In July 2021, I decided to leave the team so that I could grow my own business. Thus far, I’ve helped ten families get to the closing table and have kept in touch with all of them.
I love connecting with home buyers/sellers and walking them through the process. My goal is that every one of my clients walks away from the closing table with a smile on their face! I want them to feel like they were my only client and I did my absolute best for them at every stage of the transaction.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My real estate career started right before Covid 19 took over the world, so there was an immediate shift in the “normal” way of doing things. Learning to pivot from the beginning was actually a great introduction to the industry because every client and every transaction is so very different.
One huge struggle has been getting used to working really hard and then not getting paid for that effort. Unfortunately, not every client makes it to the closing table and I’ve had several deals terminate for various reasons. A couple insisted on selling their home themselves and when that deal fell through, it adversely affected our deal. Another issues arose when an appraisal came in really low and the seller decided to pull the market off the market. I always treat these situations as opportunities to learn. I’ve learned that good time management, flexibility and constant/open communication are just a few of the keys to success in this business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a BFA in Communication Design. I love art, design and organization, so I am implementing them in my current business. I design and create most of my own marketing materials and social media posts. My goal is to make every house I sell a home so I also offer customers and closed clients moving, organizing and design services. My company will pack/unpack, organize or help decorate their spaces to match whatever their vision of “home” is!
How do you think about luck?
Oooohhhh!!! I wouldn’t say good or bad luck has been a huge part of my life or business. I have definitely had good and bad things happen, but I have always done the hard work to get in/out of situations that ultimately form who I am.
