Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Howell.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a sneakerhead my entire life. My older brothers are sneakerheads, so I’ve been immersed in this community since 2004. When I got to high school, I started going to sneaker conventions, and sometimes I would trade shoes for a “more used” pair if it was a shoe that I really wanted. I soon found out that I could get shoes that I wanted a bit cheaper because they were used and then clean them to make them look brand new. Simultaneously, I am beginning to not only stay up to date with every shoe release but the latest fashion as well. Fast-forward to when the pandemic started, I needed a way to bring in residual income so I launched a sneaker page to resell sneakers. In 2021 I began to buy used shoes again and one day decided to clean all of my shoes that needed cleaning and record the process along the way.
I ended up posting a few videos and people began to reach out to get their sneakers cleaned. This was the beginning of what is now the one-stop shop for buying sneakers and getting sneakers cleaned. All the while this is going on, I am still dabbling in fashion and my cousin, Courtland White, and I decided to launch a fashion line called “fn”. Everything we make is made for functionality, comfort, and creative freedom. Fn, which means Function, essentially aims to take the simplicity of garments and give them multi-purpose use. There is this wave in the city of saying “one of them one’s”, but our hoodies are made by the artist Courtland White and are literally 1/1 pieces. Wearable art with no two hoodies being identical. This gives the wearer the ability to truly be their own creative.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is a smooth road. Everything is about perspective and pivoting. The sneaker industry is a tricky industry to be within because the market is constantly changing. What sells today may not sell tomorrow. What sells in this size may not be as profitable across the board. Thinking a shoe that traditionally will always be. Buying shoes for friends and ending up getting stuck with the shoe because they no longer want the shoe. Knowing when to sit on a shoe and when to flip it. All of these are just some of the struggles that come with it, everyone goes through it… it’s almost like a rite of passage. Obstacles and life are synonymous, the only question is the to go through the obstacle or over it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently a Business Ops Specialist at a home healthcare agency. I specialize in being hands-on with my team to foster the best conditions for them to be able to get our patients staffed, run daily reports, and devise ways to continually propel revenue. The thing that I am most proud of is being able to coach my new members on my team up on the various ways to staff our patients. What comes with this is lowering their anxiety level and really going back and forth with them and learning them as a person and them figuring out the best strategy for them. The thing that sets me apart is that I’m very patient and intentional.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a ball of energy! I used to love to be the center of attention, but in school I was quiet and laid back, I never got in any trouble. I’ve always been interested in the human body and helping people. I used to want to be a Plastic Surgeon, then a Pediatrician, now I am on my way to becoming a Physician Assistant. Outside of that, I love sports and being a competitor. I started running track and playing basketball at 4 years old on through college.
