Today we’d like to introduce you to Kala Lewis.
Hi Kala, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for the arts and design has always been a driving force in my life! From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to own my own design business but of course, didn’t know what that would look like. Over the last few years, I’ve really been able to hone in and decipher the type of design services I wanted to provide and how I wanted to serve my clients. From there, it was just a matter of growing a clientele and creating a cohesive branding package.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has been such a beautiful learning experience. Every obstacle, every “no” has directed me into the spaces that have best served me. As cliche as that sounds, my journey has been far from smooth but necessary!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to call myself an Aesthetic Architect! My company, Minima, provides conceptual Interior Design services for those dreaming to achieve the “livable luxury” aesthetic they’ve always wanted. Whether it be through consultations or full-service design packages, I strive to ensure peace of mind throughout the design process for every client.
In addition to Interior Design services, I also create photorealistic renderings of interior spaces (depending on the design package) or outsource them to other companies/ designers.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’m sure every person has come out of the Covid-19 crisis with a new perspective on life! For me personally, I’ve learned to take risks and bet on myself. Having graduated from SCAD during such an unprecedented time, I really wanted to take control of my own career and life. I did so by stepping outside of my comfort zone and taking the first steps in entrepreneurship. In assessing the positives, going through that experience really aided in building self-confidence.
