Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquise Burns.
Hi Marquise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Burns Brims in 2020 during the pandemic with the push and support of my wife. I actually been wearing Brims since I was a kid, having a fascination with cowboys and Indians. So ending up on this path only made sense. Once my uncle Rex purchased my first cowboy hat for me at the age of seven, it was on. Fast forward today, me and my wife had a brief conversation about how I would like to open a store and sell boots and brims. 2020 was the year the dream became real. When everyone stopped traveling we increased our travel to grow our travel channel Desi and Quise Wanderlove. During those travels, I started really designing new looks to my personal hats that was capturing the attention of everyone. My wife said to me, baby it’s time to start building your other dream. Your dream to create hats.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth having comes easy because if it was easy everyone would do it and in doing anything new you can’t be ready for it because it’s new. Traveling into the unfamiliar! Traveling the road less traveled you have to create the path. I think the biggest struggle of starting something new is just that, starting. After getting started it’s the follow-through to keep at something that is constantly showing you more and more obstacles. The fine line of being passive or having passion. You will learn alot about yourself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a world traveler and Celebrity hat designer. I specialize in using my artistic talent and turning hats into art. I am a milliner who makes fedoras. I am known for design and travel. I am most proud of having a business where I’m able to combine my love of art and fashion into one to create a product that I’m able to share with the world. What sets me apart from others is that when I create a hat I’m not just providing something to place on your head. I’m providing the client with Art, a crown, and high fashion. I’m providing the client an experience, a feeling. I’m providing the client something that will give them mystery, confidence, and class.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My first time on a plane, my first cowboy hat, and the first time I received approval that my art was good.
