Conversations with Rahim Brazil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahim Brazil.

Hi Rahim, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been one filled with many challenges and disappointments. I grew up in Baltimore, Md which is one of the roughest cities in Maryland. My mom and dad were not active parents in my life and much of my childhood, I was raised by friends and family members. As a child, I begin falling in love with the arts and found multiple ways of being creative. This gave me an escape from the harsh realities that I faced as a child. I begin working on music, writing songs, and singing. I taught myself how to play the piano by ear and that begin my journey as an artist. From there I started to use my gifts in middle school which led me to attending plays, writing scripts and acting. Art became my life. I continued to work on my craft all throughout high school and lead the choir as well as a music group called iimage. iiMage was a duo between me and my best friend. We started taking music more seriously by performing in shows around the city. In 2010 I decided that it was time to leave what I knew in Baltimore and head to Atlanta to begin a new chapter. I begin making plans and finally landed in ATL in January 2011. We begin working day in and day out on creating songs. In 2013, I started my own journey in music by releasing new music as a rapper. Becoming a rapper gave me more confidence in my music and sound.

Unfortunately, it dampened my relationship with my best friend and group member. I begin working hard to make connections in Atlanta and begin working on the set of a show called About Him. The show received a lot of support from the LGBT community which gave me more recognition and visibility. This would eventually lead me in other sectors of entertainment such as becoming a radio host, Director and socialite. Since becoming a movie director in 2017, I have released multiple projects, series and interviews. As an on-air personality, I have interviewed various known and unknown individuals. My hard work and dedication has bought me to such a time as this. Where this is my moment to SHINE. I’ve put in so much dedication to this craft that I am ready to reap what I have sown good fortune, success, and freedom. I will be releasing my new album music on my birthday 12/4 and continue to look for ways to self-improve.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been smooth, it has been a roller coaster. I did not have a lot of support around me for my gifts or the love and guidance that I would have loved growing up. My family only knew what they knew from their perspective. My father was a distant parent who was very judgmental and controlling. My mother was struggling with substances mainly alcohol. This lead me to becoming an individual who always doubted his own potential and looking for validation in other people. I searched for it in friends, family, school, sex, and alcohol. I’ve made a lot of choices that at times lead me down the wrong path. Ultimately this journey of mine has been developing who I am as a person and my character. It has been teaching me self-love, acceptance and discovery. It has taught me to give more of myself to my music and artistry. I may not have had a positive beginning but I am faithful that God will lead me to a positive reward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say the Rahim Brazil is a master creator. I am rapper, director, radio personality, and talk show host. I am known for creating several projects while using enlightenment as a part of my creative expression. What sets me apart from others is the ability to help others see their potential. I am not your average Rapper who raps about sex, drugs, and money. I express myself in a way that it forces my audience to question their soul’s potential. For Instance, my recent single Happy is a song dedicated to self-awareness and choice. Choosing the right to be happy and not allowing other people to determine that for you. I have something unique and powerful to give to my audiences, and that is God’s still small voice that speaks to them at the heart center.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite Childhood memory was all the times I got to spend with my grandmother. My grandmother Thelma really took me in a nurtured me as a young boy. She always made me feel loved and special. I was her favorite. I believe she instilled a lot of love within me and helped me to become the supportive, giving, nurturing person that I am.
