Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Waczkowski.
Hi Randy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Growing up in McDonough, there wasn’t much representation of media or stories being told from the city in which I grew up. There was a time when it was quiet and non-active. However, as the years went by and my generation took the torch, I utilized my interest and skills acquired from being a Disc Jockey, Marching Band, and Symphonic Band in high school to get into Broadcast and Media production. Not only are people of color underrepresented in the media, but our stories are told by someone who doesn’t live here. It also occurred to me that McDonough, in my own backyard, has a lot of rich history. After college, I formed a media production company to share untold stories, capture joy and blackness through the lens of my camera and break down barriers by telling our story and bringing my community together.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There were always barriers, often related to technology or internal issues with myself. Prior to forming the media production company, I faced a major challenge when I was forced to choose between music and photography. This was a unique decision because the outcome was not what I had expected. By combining my passions for Media Production, I was able to pursue my mission without having to give up one of my passions. As a result, many doors have opened from mentorships to grants, to relationships that will last a lifetime and a clearer vision for the future. Additionally, I have been able to act as a voice for the community and a technological advocate. Providing me with the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the village.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Executive Director/CEO of Name’s Blue Media LLC. Our media business focuses on creating auditory compositions, distribution of visual productions, and project management. Professional photography, documentaries, reality series, and educational content are some of the examples of services that we provide. In addition to telling the story of the community, I intend to provide a platform for mental health resources because I believe that it is imperative to improve the quality of life of the community. Through my position in the media, I am able to speak on behalf of the community through my platform. I am proud to work with other individuals and organizations who are focused on improving their quality of life.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The greatest risk anyone can ever take is not taking any action at all. A complacent attitude will not lead to results, nor can a lack of motion lead to change. By not attempting, you place yourself at greater risk, and without failure, you are unable to learn. Throughout my career, I have made many mistakes and failures. Most people can only see my professionalism now, but it took those years of learning experiences to shape me into the professional I am today. Although people may desire to wait for the right time to take action, there is no right time. Take action now for the benefit of your future self.
