Conversations with Robert Dalby Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Dalby Jr.

Hi Robert, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am the co-owner to Diggie The Progression Of Hip-Hop LLC & P.U.S.H. Entertainment. I was raised in Chamblee, GA for most of my life until I joined the Army when I was 18 years old. I served in the US Army for 20 years on active duty and I am an Iraq War veteran. After I left the service, I always wanted to start a podcast on hip-hop. The music, the culture, the artists that shaped what I love. Although never being an artist myself, I wanted to create a platform where any fan of hip-hop could come on and share their thoughts about artists that have shaped and molded the culture. I want to continue to use the platform as a voice for social injustice and having discussions about the music I love. Therefore, my wife Jessica Dalby and business partner saw the bigger vision and established the business. In less than 24 months in business, we have peaked at #9 on the Apple Podcasts chart in the United States under music history. Our platform is in the top 10% globally. We have surpassed 1.4 million views on our YouTube channel.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been major obstacles along this journey. One of the major things I have learned is when you start something you are passionate about you will begin to see who truly wants you to succeed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the host of the Diggie A-2 Podcast that discusses the major artists that have paved the way of hip-hop culture and music. I also do all the post-production. The platform has open discussions around time era’s that have shifted the culture. We also conduct interviews with independent artists and management groups. We are most proud of popularity the platform is receiving and our work of keeping the memories alive of those that we have lost to social injustice. Every season we dedicate to a person we have lost to this struggle. What makes our platform unique is we don’t talk about album reviews or popular culture. We are trying to give history and perspective on what hip-hop was, is, and will be in the future.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to others is to seek out guidance, always ask questions, and remember that with all you do it is still business at the end of the day. Research anyone, you want to engage in business with. Never be afraid to ask questions because no question is a bad question when you’re establishing a business and brand.
