Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sylvia Gholston.
Hi Dr. Sylvia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started designing spaces for family and friends. My husband and I always received compliments about our home. People would always say things like, your home is lovely, your home feels like home. So we would help others with gaining the same feeling in their homes. I then decided to do this full-time as a business. And without ever owning a startup staging business, I decided a franchise was the way to go. Once we were trained, we hit the ground running. And referrals have helped us to get to where we are now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth. Many people order from the right side of the menu and are about price and not value. Finding that realtor or homeowner that understands the value in staging has been a journey. It still amazes me that someone would market a home that is not show-ready. The supply chain has also been a struggle. We are not cookie cutter so finding inventory and getting the inventory in a timely matter has also been an issue.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a certified professional home stager. I make homes that are on the market look beautiful, sell faster, and for more money. I’m proud that my vision helps homeowners and realtors. I also am proud that people call me to tell me how good my work looks. The thing that set me apart from others is my customer service and communication. I’m the best communicator.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the diversity within Metro Atlanta. I do not like how people can be stagers and not be licensed or insured. Many people are taking huge chances but will take the chance because of price.
