Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Kucera.
Hi Vickie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been painting and creating most of my adult life. Growing up, my parents were always doing creative things and it sparked the same desire in me.
20 years ago I was fortunate enough to open a small art and framing business in Vidalia, GA. This brought into my life some amazing art teachers, mentors, and lifelong friends. It also fueled the desire for me to further develop my art skills and knowledge, from that point on there’s been no turning back for me. I paint and create any chance that I get. You will often hear me say that art is a gift from the heART, for I believe there’s a little bit of the artist in everything they create.
I’ve had the great joy of teaching many people to paint through the years. It brings me joy to open the doors for others to see things from a creative place.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, my artistic journey hasn’t always been smooth. In 2010 I had to make the difficult decision to close my art store. While I had to let go of the physical place that will always hold a special place in my heart. I realized that while I no longer had my store, I will always have art in my life and the friends I made along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve lived in Georgia for 27 years and I’ve always been fascinated with the history here and the old barns and fascinating treasures that can be found traveling these southern roads.
I’m drawn to old barns, old cars and trucks as subject matters in many of my paintings. I love the faded wood of the old barns, the patina of colors in the old vehicles. I also enjoy painting animals and people. There’s something very satisfying when a commission is completed and the joy that it brings the buyer.
What makes you happy?
ART makes me happy! For me personally, when I’m painting it takes me to a place that knows no concept of time, troubles fade away and I just get lost in the creative process.
