Today we’d like to introduce you to Wade Brown.
Hi Wade, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. My dad was in the army, so we moved around for a bit until We settled down in Huntsville, AL when I was 6. I’ve been singing officially since I was about that age. Both my parents can sing and my mom played the piano. They both put on a lot of old school music of all genres, from Al Green & George Clinton to Prince and D’Angelo. From rock groups like The Eagles to Gospel such as The Mighty Clouds of Joy. I started performing when I was 12. And after deep-diving into the world of hip hop around that same time, I started rapping a couple of years later when I was 14.
Kanye – Late Registration
D’Angelo -Voodoo
Outkast- Stankonia
Prince- Musicology
lil Wayne – Drought 3
Wu -Tang – 36 Chambers……
a few albums that changed my life.
I started recording when I was 16. During that time, I had also competed in the ActSo competition which took me to NY for the first time.
When I was 17, I on season 10 of American Idol & made it to the top 50, which made an interesting high school senior year. The following year, as a freshman in college, I was on Season 2 of the Voice, on Ceelo’s team. I made it to the battle rounds. By then, I was already known for performing around town but would soon gain even more notoriety due to the exposure.
Fast forward to 2016, when I dropped my first project “Coffee.” It was a mesh of all my influences as well as themes inspired my upbringing and past romances.
This was the catalyst for me developing my current fanbase across the globe, which is still developing daily. I was blessed to have project hi-lighted “AfroPunk, Singers Room, DJ Booth.net, and a few other entities, as well as being placed in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, which was an honor.
Things kicked up a notch when I released my sophomore effort “Food At The House, Vol 1.” I most recently released my third and latest project which is a collab with producer Enrique1x entitled “Prescription Lens.”
And I’m currently working on the soundtrack for comic book “.Giallo Gumbo,” a black noir.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been a few difficulties along the way, the main obstacle being the passing of my mother in 2014. She was my rock. Musically, before the release of my first project, I struggled to find the perfect balance of my influences to create my specific sound. It wasn’t until “Coffee” where it clicked. From the age of 18-22, I experienced the struggle to not be put in a box or forced to compromise my sound and what felt organic to me due to whatever style of music was relevant and popular at the time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a soul singer/songwriter and a rapper. I make soul music.
I guess my sound Would be a blend of what some would call “neo soul,” funk, rnb and hip hop.
What makes you happy?
Family, friends, creating, laughter, & helping others.
I was raised heavily family-oriented, and I was raised by a loving family.
I consider My friends my family as well because we’re just that close.
Creating is my form release.
So is laughter. Comedy was big in my house growing up. From in living color, to Martin, to Kings of Comedy to Dave Chappelle, to Ricky smiley prank calls. We always loved to joke and laugh.
And I was always taught to help people.
