Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Ricketts.
Hi Whitney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well at the age of 3 I started dancing and I would be casted in musicals as a dancer/chorus. In 2021, I was able to be casted as a lead role, Sunshine, in the stage play “When Dance Meets Music” directed by Athena Cosby. Originally I was only casted as a dancer but landed a lead role as time went on. We toured to four cities to include Atlanta, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Miami. Currently, I am premiering in my first indie feature film “Revisiting The Heart” also directed by Athena Cosby where I play a lead character, Kendall.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Having to do virtual rehearsals because of covid it’s been a little hard but we get through it and make the most of it. Also with me living in Dallas, TX, it’s been hard traveling back and forth taking off work. I am truly thankful that I have been able to take time off and complete these projects to get my career going!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Aside from starting a career in the acting industry, I am a fulltime military recruiter for the Texas Army National Guard. I also have my own business called, Whit’s Candles & Tings, where I hand make & sell candles, wax melts, lip gloss, plus more! I also host public and private Lit Candle Making Parties that are like paint & sip but with a twist! I am also starting a nonprofit called Thriving Children Regardless where we focus on the youth between ages 11-16 who have a passion in performing arts and teaching the importance of community service. As you can see I am a very ambitious woman and it definitely sets me apart from others. My work ethic speaks for itself and I am very proud of the woman I have become.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when my dad would set up the video camera and my brother and I would record ourselves. We would turn into completely different kids and have the most funniest moments. I go back and watch the tapes and we definitely should have been on a TV show.
