I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being a female independent artist in a male-dominated field hasn’t been easy. As an artist, you have to find your audience and appeal to them but they aren’t the only people that you appeal to. You appeal to everyone. The fans, the photographers, the managers, the graphic designers, the executives, etc… So you have to be strong and witty enough to create those boundaries with people and still get work done. It can be tricky and annoying at times but you have to push through If you want it bad enough.
This creates a huge challenge when you’re working on your own and don’t have that male representation to keep things in check. People will try you.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter from New Orleans, LA. I started singing at a very early age. My grandmother Mary Mayo sang with Moses Hogan choir so I was always surrounded and influenced by music. I was singing background for artists and decided to develop my craft. I love writing and performing, both come very naturally to me.
Writing my own music allows me to express my own thoughts and feelings and gives me a deeper connection not only with the song but the listener.
I believe that I appeal to the everyday independent woman who is interested in being their own boss. This woman is sexy, fun, cool & fashionable. She loves glam but can also be casual and comfortable in her own natural state. This woman is ambitious but also knows how to let her hair down and have a good time. She has a knack for beauty and health. This woman knows herself and exactly what she wants.
My proudest moment is when I shot my video for my most recent single “I LIKE IT”. I shot it a few months after moving to Atlanta in my apartment with no budget. Shout out to my videographer Savage Tale! It came out amazing and all it took was a little creativity and commitment.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that this city is full of things to do at all times. You can’t be bored here. There is non-stop entertainment here in Atlanta. What I dislike the most are the unskilled drivers! The worst! It gives me anxiety being on the roads here. These people are in their own world!
