Daily Inspiration: Meet Canesha Henry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Canesha Henry.

Hi Canesha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a creative since a little girl; playing in makeup, photography, cutting up clothes to create outfits, cooking food network-inspired meals, from painting to doing hair. Although I enrolled in college for Criminal Justice the plan was to do hair and photography on the side. In a nutshell, somehow I ended up enrolling in cosmetology school and the rest became history… well that’s of course still being written. Color, Curls, and Confidence has been my specialty and I wanted to take that from behind the chair and bring it to my brides to encourage and help them believe their natural hair and skin is as elegant as their extensions and full glam. This is what birthed The Bride’s Beautician, I had a desire to make the ‘everyday woman” feel extraordinary because after all she is!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Defying the odds that a hairstylist have to be stuck behind the chair to make consistent or good money. I don’t see a lot of black and brown bridal stylists and I wanted to offer this luxury to my community and also to my community’s community. I am a well-versed stylist that can serve all hair textures and skin tones. Overcoming mental blockages that we can’t create our own lane is a task in itself. I’ve just decided scared and all, I’m going to take a chance on my God-given ideas and let me just say… it always works out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Bride’s Beautician confidently provides luxurious experiences through hair and makeup services for all things bridal. Having the ability to sharpen someone’s confidence in what seems like overnight is exhilarating and so satisfying. Most brides dream of their wedding day since a little girl so to be a part of something so monumental I seriously don’t take it lightly. This is serious business, but we have fun. I take good care of them and in return, although I’m only looking for smiles, they take care of me as well. I pay attention to their style, needs, and preferences and I incorporate what I’ve learned into their big day.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
You may not start off being confident but do it anyhow. The more you do it, the more confident you will become and confidence will attract anything and everyone you need it to attract. I like to say I’m a recovering perfectionist, I love things being done in excellence, but it has caused me to procrastinate in areas I should have been more courageous in or even further in. Just do what you can, and what you can do will start working for you. Brace yourself and give grace to yourself.
