Today we’d like to introduce you to Charis Sellick.
Hi Charis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey, I am Charis Sellick (Like Charismatic or carousel with the horses) or just your resident Theatre Kid! I do content creation on YouTube, Twitch and Instagram. But I moved to Atlanta in January of 2019 to do Theatre and Film…yes, right before Covid… So when everything shut down I started live streaming and making YouTube Videos and I haven’t stopped since!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has 100% NOT been smooth, but nothing worth having is easy, right? I went to school for musical theatre so my voice has always been really important to me. Right around when Covid started I developed a lot of really rough vocal problems. It took me out of singing completely so I thought “I better invest in my personality” and I am very very glad I did!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So, I always say I am an actor first. I love being a vocalist but my real passion is acting and directing. I have mostly done a lot of Theatre work but I was fortunate enough to film a commercial last year which I think is even cooler since I booked it while not being represented by an agent. But if you google me I am most well-known for my YouTube channel. I love YouTube and it takes so much work but is so so so rewarding! I have found a really cool niche of doing reaction videos to metal music. How I got into that… I am not sure..it kind of just fell in my lap. But I love it and I appreciate the community so much! I hope to expand my channel into more original content that’s some of the work I am most proud of. I think what sets me apart is my spunk really. I come into everything with a lot of positive energy and I hope to always stay that way.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I know this is simple but I LIVE by my voice memos. I have vocal warm-ups that are 10 years old that I still use before auditions. I have ideas for videos explained out since I am overwhelming dyslexic and don’t even know what I meant when I type things. I have whole scenes and monologues from shows I listen to over and over to get off book for shows. It is my most useful tool on my phone.
