Today we’d like to introduce you to Coach Chef Kimberly Houston.
Hi Coach Chef Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For ten years I ran a custom boutique bakery called the Cookie Emporium. I catered to many celebrities in the Atlanta metro area, until Thanksgiving of 2020. That morning I was fine but by the time I took the turkey out of the oven, I almost dropped it. By 9 pm I could no longer hold a cup or open doors. That was when everything changed. I pivoted my business from serving customers outside of my home to launching a tutorial-based food photography business that earned six figures in the first year. After that success, I moved into coaching other chefs and creatives on how to start their digital food photography businesses and recently launched an Abundance Mindset Coaching Practice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every transition has its ups and downs. As an Abundance Mindset Coach, I have to constantly be aware of my own issues getting in the way of my success. I dissect my limiting beliefs and pay attention to mistaken beliefs (the things other people have said, that may or may not be internalized). I’m big on Energy. I pay attention to my intuition, in the rare occasion I do not, there are typically consequences that may not be in my favor. However, I know that whenever I do something that doesn’t turn out the way I had hoped, it’s not a failure, its data. I use the data to make informed choices on my next course of action. When my camera was too heavy, I started shooting with my cell phone. Once I realized people couldn’t tell the difference, I knew applying dslr photography components to shooting with a cell phone would be a new market. And so a Mastering Cell Phone Photography course was created and has been done at multiple conferences over the past 2 years.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im a multiprenuer. The idea that you have to do one thing and one thing only never sat well with me. I own a digital Content Creation business that includes two Etsy shops, a dropshipping store, numerous online classes, and a full-service tutorial-based food photography content shop for bloggers and brands. I also host The Visionary Catalyst Podcast, The Visionary Catalyst Consulting blog & coaching program, and have four active food blogs.
I’m most proud that while I have all those components of active and passive income running simultaneously, I’m a full-time student at the Wright Graduate University pursuing a second Master’s degree in Transformational Leadership and Coaching. I only work about 20 hours in my business and devote another 15 hours to studying. Finally having control of my life in a way that allows me to expand my education, while still making money (actively and passively) is my greatest accomplishment.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I truly do not believe you have to work hard to live the life of your dreams. If you have systems in place that support multiple passive streams of income plus a main active income source, you can control your time.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I think my favorite childhood memory was sneaking into the kitchen while my grandmother cooked. Sharing that time with her was priceless and probably why I became a chef.
