Today we’d like to introduce you to Dondre Maestro.
Hi Dondre, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for music since a young boy. I got serious about it when, for a Christmas assembly, everyone had to write a poem. The audience went into this wild frenzy, sort of like a standing ovation for the Christmas poem that I wrote and recited. That’s when I realized I’m really gifted.
My sound has changed over the years, especially once I found Jesus. It inspired a new sound, so I use no profanity in my songs, and I make sure to spread a good message.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy road, but God gives me the strength to endure. I lost both of my big brothers (not at the same time) to gun violence, so it was a lot of trauma I had to overcome. It was hard to stay optimistic. I just went to Jesus with my pain. I stopped complaining to other people. I stopped expecting sympathy from them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create music for the soul. A lot of listeners tell me, “This is some gospel music that I actually like.” I know how to communicate with the younger generation, and they understand me, but I also feel like my music has an old soul to it. It’s wisdom, but it’s something you can turn up to at the same time.
My goal with my music is to set people free from the spirit of loneliness. It’s meant to show people they aren’t alone. I really care about my listeners’ soul. My music is for people who want to have a good time and just enjoy life.
I’m known for being optimistic. My friends and family call me all the time when they need prayer or uplifting. That’s something I am most proud of. Just knowing that others can see God using me, even if I’m not aware of it sometime.
The thing that sets me apart from others is I’m myself. I don’t lie to make a song seem “harder” than it should be. Authenticity is rare these days, that’s why whenever I go into the booth, I make sure I don’t lie in my songs. I want my listeners to feel like they can relate to me.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
You need Jesus. No amount of likes, fame, attention, or praise from the world can give you that feeling of satisfaction. Never put God last. On another note, I’ve got a lot of new music and visuals I’m working on for my fans. I’ve really been listening to them, I’m delivering some stuff for them this era, glory to God.
