Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Patterson.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began making music in 2007, there’s actually a video of my first beat ever on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Deu9OLKk3Jg&ab_channel=WilliamGoldProductions)
The path into music was always in my blueprint. My dad is a lifelong DJ, creative, and music head so my love for the craft really came naturally. I started DJing on vinyl at 12, discovered Garageband not long after, and then got into Maschine in 2010, never looking back.
Music has been a part of every step in my journey, from teaching myself instruments and production to songwriting for artists, to deciding to move to ATL to be closer to a real music scene and being offered DJ gigs at places like JoJo’s Beloved Cocktails.
Music stays in the hobby column of my life, and I keep it there so it never feels like work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think the creative road is ever a smooth road. I spent a lot of years wanting to be further ahead in my craft than I was, and it took patience and dedication to keep growing. Of course, there’s also the social side of music, finding friends and losing friends along the road. But it all led me to where I am today and so I don’t regret any of it. The positives in my journey have outweighed the negatives and when things get tough, I rely on the confidence I’ve instilled in myself, as well as the confidence others instill in me every time they see and hear me do what I love.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When COVID hit, I took the route of self-employment. My life and time belong to me and I wanted to live a life where that was the foundation of my present and future success.
I currently consult as a video production storyteller, working for companies large and small to take complex concepts/projects/content and boil it down into engaging, digestible, entertaining and informative content. It’s really my own person niche that clients seek me out for.
The biggest lesson I learned that makes me the most proud is realizing that no one controls me, my work, and my life. Being tied to companies as an employee drained me because I dealt with a lot of egotistical, non-humanistic directors and bosses. I realized that the only person who understands my life vision and allowed me to work and thrive in my own way was me, so I set out on my self-employment journey. Since doing so, it’s been so liberating to see my work be desired and sought after by corporations and organizations.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to working and collaborating on projects, whether it be in my professional work as a video producer or in my creative as a music producer/songwriter/DJ.
I love working on videos that have to do with what’s happening in the world (news, trends, popular industries) as well as culture content (bar/restaurant promos, artist promos, etc.)
