Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Biggs.
Hi Kelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have over 25 years of experience in Corporate Sales. There were so many things about that journey that I loved. I met wonderful friends and had fantastic mentors. One of the things that I valued was building relationships with prospects, clients, and coworkers. Many of them are still intact.
As a salesperson, I worked closely with the marketing teams to create campaigns that resonated with prospects. This was the knowledge they didn’t have because they were not face-to-face with the clients. However, we were most relevant and could shorten the sales cycle when marketing and sales collaborated.
In 2019 I got the marketing bug and wanted to set out on my own. So together with my husband, we researched the best way to launch our business. We decided on a franchise model because we felt it would be the quickest way to succeed. In January 2020, we purchased a regional franchise of WSI – the world’s largest digital marketing network.
Today, we have a successful digital marketing agency focused on growing business with a digital lead generation strategy specific to each client.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had no idea that the world was about to change. The pandemic happened just three months later. It turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. I’ll start with the latter. Our ability to forge new relationships became extremely limited. What worked for other franchisees before was not a suitable model for the future. But the good news was that the prospects we talked to no longer viewed digital marketing as a “nice to have”; it was now necessary. So, we found that was no longer an objection we had to overcome.
Another challenge was that most of my support system was in Corporate America. This made being an entrepreneur a bit lonely. It was challenging to express my journey and where I might need assistance because I wasn’t sure what type of support was needed. By that, I mean that every day brought with it new emotions and experiences. One of the things that paved the way to minimize this challenge was WSI. I found support for my new business in new as well as existing relationships. The home office and a core group of other franchisees in my training class supported me in a compelling way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One of the things that I have learned in this journey is to lean into your authentic self. I am passionate about four things that I bring to the table for each of my clients, strategy, sales acumen, competitive spirit, and analytics. How this shows up in our business is our digital marketing focus is on building relationships that drive revenue to our customer’s bottom line. We create a unique strategy for each client’s specific goals and business models. We pour over that data and analyze it to identify trends that enable our clients to beat their competitors and steal market share.
We also partner with our clients to ensure that the sales team cultivates leads that come in. More specifically, we want to ensure the sales team is equipped with the tools they need to close the deal and understand any gaps.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am an open book, but it might surprise people that on free weekends, I can binge-watch entire seasons of tv series. Most recently, I did this for Handmaid’s Tale and Insecure.
