Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvin Broadus.
Hi Kelvin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Entertainment has been a part of my life since my grade school days. I rapped as a teenager, even performing with notable artists such as the multi-platinum producer Swole, as we attended the same school. I was also involved in the Drama program. Over the years, I did a lot of independent entertainment, producing music, sketch comedy, movie extra work, and even public speaking and book authoring to further build my brand.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road is anything but smooth, but it is motivating. There are always people close to you who doubt you. The money is not there starting out, thus the term starving artist. Working full-time while also being creative is a major time drain. Also, the field is so flooded that you really have to work hard and consistently to stand out. And sometimes, such as in my case, it requires more background work, working with the movers and shakers rather than jumping into the limelight.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Though when I started out, I was mainly involved and rapping and producing for rap, I always had a hand in acting. I was producing the type of skits that comedians like Kountry Wayne and Kev on Stage create, on YouTube long before it became popular and the social media scene took off. I am an improv artist, and sketch work is my strength, though I am skilled in a full range of acting modalities. On top of that, I have a martial arts and fitness background, which adds to the type of roles I can take. Overall, being multifaceted from music to speaking, to self-defense, to drama gives me my distinction.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being open-minded, flexible in my approach, creative, and passionate about my craft are most important for success to me.
