Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Simpson.
Hi Olivia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am currently 38 years old, Married to my Husband Mike with four beautiful children. I currently reside in Moultrie, GA. I was born in South Carolina and later moved to Tallahassee, FL where I was raised until age 15. We then moved to my mothers home town of Moultrie, GA in 1997. My story begins at the age of 16 in 1999. I was nine months pregnant (yes a teenage mother) and I had just lost my baby brother Aaron (age two) at home to Asthma. He was Diagnosed in September 1999 and by October 1999 he was gone! I was devasted and wished I could have saved him if only I knew CPR, but I did not at the time! It was at that moment I decided I would be a nurse (to save as many people as I could).
I started my nursing career as a Certified Nursing Assitant while I was still in High School at age 17. I got my first job at a Nursing Home a few months after passing boards and receiving my CNA license. I worked as a CNA for about three years and I then decided I would pursue my Nursing Degree! I became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2007! I worked for about three to four years and decided I would go further and become a Registered Nurse! I became a RN in 2011 with my associate’s degree and later went on to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in 2013 at Darton State College in Albany, GA. After working about four years I went on to receive my Master’s Degree from Valdosta State University in 2018 specializing in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. I passed my AANP Certification with the State of Georgia in 2019.
It was in 2019 I had a very strong desire to start my own business and work for myself since it was taking what seemed like forever to get a promising NP role. I had a clear vision to make personalized cups, umbrellas, keychains and my very own Medical Uniform Line with all the needed equipment for Medical Professionals. My vision was that I would make all of the products with my heart in mind. So this is how I came up with my business name Heart Of Mine! I was riding in my car one day and I imagined my logo with a stethoscope in the shape of a heart.
With my business Heart Of Mine, I would customize hand-made heart-felt products for the community. I began hand-making items right away and my business became very successful. For my customers I allow them to choose the colors and words for their personalized products. I also make the products from the person’s personal likes and I freehand them. All while keeping their heart in mind!
I am currently working on my Dream Uniform Line that is personalized with Heart Of Mine on the tags! This is coming very soon!
I am proud to be in Year three of Heart Of Mine as of 6/20/2022 with many more to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road at all times. Some of the struggles that I have had along the way with my business were self-doubt, struggled with product content and also getting my products in front of the right audience. Along with the stuggles I had to relieve how much I needed to first believe in myself and also my vision. I knew I had not been given the vision without a clear strategy for it to be successful. Once I cleared the self-doubt a whole new way of thinking overcame me and my business took off! My Faith in God has definitely been a huge factor to my success. Without my trust in God, I would have never been able to conquer and beat the odds.
The obstacles/challenges I have experienced with my career path were test anxiety and fear of failure. It was not until I had a conversation with my husband that I relieved I had to be content and grateful where I was in order to proceed and go higher. He reminded me of how far I had come and in such a short time. I was reminded of how good I already had it and that I was okay in where I was in life. If I had not achieved another thing, I currently had enough! This was eye-opening and gave me the boost I needed (Thanks Husband!)
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Certified Adult Gereontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Certified through the certifying body of AANP (American Association of Nurse Practitioners) with the State of Georgia. I specialize in Adult Care. I am a Certified Palliative and Hospice Care Nurse Practitioner. I make home visits, write prescriptions and also care for the dying patient and their families in the Home setting, Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facilities.
I am known for being compassionate, encouraging and inspirational. I empathize with my patients and their families because I myself have had my share of dealing with loss, pain and suffering.
I am most proud that I never gave up on myself, my success and never lost faith in God. I have worked very hard and I know I deserve every ounce of my success. Even though there were many challenges and opposition that came my way in the process.
What sets me apart from the others is that I have a sincere heart and compassion for giving exceptional care to every person I come in contact with. I want people to remember me by the way I treated them and how I cared for them.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I actually use to be very, very, very shy I would not even speak or talk unless I was spoken to or asked something. My very first job at age 16 was a waitress and I almost quit because I had to talk to customers and interact with them. It was not until I took a public speaking class in college that made me get out of my shyness, thanks to my instructor for pushing me. I now enjoy talking and interacting with any and everyone!
