Daily Inspiration: Meet Paxton Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paxton Davis.

Hi Paxton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My interest in photography started in middle school. I got my first point-and-shoot camera for Christmas and started capturing nature. That led to capturing all of my friends as I entered high school. My first wedding was my cousins, which I shot for free to get the experience and that quickly led to a ton of booked weddings. I met Jase, my partner, in 2018 and convinced him to buy a camera within our first month of dating. A few of my wedding clients let him tag along to shoot video so he could learn the ropes and he started booking weddings shortly after. Now – we are both ordained to marry our couples and are all-inclusive for micro weddings and elopements and service large-scale weddings as well. We both shoot digital and film so I feel that truly sets us apart from a lot of other wedding photographers and videographers. I could not imagine myself doing anything else in life besides capturing love stories with Jase. It is truly everything I ever dreamed of.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Even your dream job has its challenges. Covid definitely brought new struggles to small businesses, not just mine. But for me, I think my health was the biggest challenge to navigate. I was diagnosed with lupus five years ago. I had a really bad health scare that put me in the hospital and after that, my whole life changed. I discovered what was actually important to me and really put my all into growing my business and coming up with a business model that served both myself and my clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer and mostly capture couples and weddings. I would say my style is timeless yet film-like. A bit “dark and moody” but not completely. I like to keep skin tones true to life. I always want my galleries to be looked at years from now and still be beautiful, timeless, and true to the moment. I have a more candid, documentary style of shooting. I started offering film as well recently. I find a lot of inspiration in old film photography. We are also now offering super 8 short films. I think it is huge to be able to offer both digital and film for both photo and video.

What matters most to you? Why?
My walk with God is always the most important thing in my life. I truly believe he gave me the gift of photography to share Him with others. My family is also so important to me. I have one sibling who is my best friend in life. I also have my amazing parents who have been together for thirty years. I have an incredible life partner who supports what I do with his whole heart. I have a house full of pets that are everything to me. I have a few very dear friends that are considered family. I value my relationships with those people more than anything else. Having that understanding of unconditional love with my family allows me to capture that love in other families the way that I do. It inspires me and helps me navigate this job which is truly about capturing love stories as they are in all their shapes and sizes.
