Today we’d like to introduce you to Shreya Navile.
Hi Shreya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ever since I watched my first Bollywood film in the theater (when I was three years old) I knew I wanted to be in front of the camera. As a child, I was very involved in dance, music & theater classes! I ended up going to college for contemporary theater at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee and have been fortunate enough to live off of my passion ever since graduation. I’ve worked on huge Indian film sets & am finally starting my journey back home!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth is a relative term & all depends on your perspective! I’ve been very fortunate with the opportunities that have come my way & I don’t take any of that for granted. The industry itself is a very challenging place to thrive. It forces you to confront your biggest insecurities, bounce back from constant rejection & believe in yourself even when no one else does. The former was truly my main issue but because of my journey. I’ve turned my insecurities into my strengths. I’ve always been insecure about how curvy I am & in India, it was brought up every day on set. When I moved back to America, I signed to two modeling agencies as a curve model & have been shooting major beauty campaigns because of what I look like- not despite it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Indian classical dancer, actress and curve model. I have been working in Indian language films and short films since graduating school in 2019! My series, “Parampara” on Hulu really helped me garner fans for my acting talent & got me my first feature film as a lead (which will be coming out at the end of the year.) I’ve since been modeling for brands like L’Oreal, Maybelline & Etsy to help bring representation to queer, curvy, south Asian girls like me! I hope to soon conquer the acting world here as well as I’ve just signed with a great NYC/ATL acting agency.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am obsessed with the TV show Dance Moms. It is truly my favorite thing in the world! My mom had a dance school and it wasn’t as chaotic as ALDC but watching those episodes really brings me back to my days in the studio. Plus the drama is to die for. Fun fact: I’m SO obsessed with dance moms that it’s my birthday party theme & of course, I’m Maddie!
