Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Blakely.
Hi Vickie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Memphis, TN, and moved to Georgia in 2011 with less than $300 in my pocket.
I started this journey with a passion for discussing single life, relationships, and dating due to hearing the constant complaints of not being able to find single people in Atlanta. In speaking with one particular young lady on her struggle, I decided to take matters into my own hands and host an event at my apartment in 2014. At the time, only three people came out. I didn’t give up, so I hosted another and more people came. Then another and even more people came out to connect. I even created a group via Facebook because my apartment was not going to hold more than 20 people.
After my second event, a friend of mine was looking for a young lady that was there because she didn’t make the last event. He reached out to me and I reached out to the mutual friend to get her number. These two have now been married for three years and expecting their first child together very soon. I connected another man and woman via my Facebook group at the time, and they are also married. I enjoy engaging with single people on their journey about single life, dating and finding out the struggles of dating in your 20’s, 30’s, and possibly dating in your 40’s.
Because I enjoy engaging with people on this journey, Single N Searching was officially created. Unfortunately, social media is showcasing a very negative impression of how dating should be and a lot of people tend to follow suit. Instead of learning what you like, want and/or need on your own, people look towards what others are doing. I offer my thoughts and opinion’s on a lot of different topics and people appreciate that because in most cases, they had never heard it in the manner that I presented. With a little food and drinks, conversations tend to go a long way!
It has been taught to us that people are not perfect, however that is not true. Each individual has their own definition of perfection and we should not be taught otherwise. My idea of a “perfect relationship” may not be the same as another, but that doesn’t mean that I should be taught that it doesn’t exist. I’m a stickler for moving forward in breaking generational choices and working together to make that happen and hopefully a lot more people will join me on this ride.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not! I have had a lot of people laugh and mock me for wanting to create this business. But then, tried to create the same business thereafter. I’ve had people say that it was a good idea and wanted to connect but when I reach out, I was ignored. There is also the struggle of people wanting to be on the show but not on camera and the show is created around a table, dressed up with food and drinks. But with not wanting to be on camera, that prevents us in moving forward. Then there is the struggle of costs and personal struggles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally, I am a supervisor over a team of less than 10.
I am proud of leaving the comfort of my family and stepping out on my own and not having to return to that area. Having my two beautiful girls and creating a life for us, that they can be happy with.
I give people a different outlook on relationships and dating that they one can appreciate. Even if they don’t 100% agree with it, they appreciate the conversation had and hopefully walk away useful information to apply moving forward.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My mother bought me a cake for my 13th birthday (could’ve been 12th). When it was time to blow out the candles, everyone was excited and ready to eat. The candles came back on! We went through this process 2 more times before realizing that she bought the wrong candles for my cake. I was mad because multiple people was blowing on my cake. My mom finally took the candles off and put water on them in the sink.
