Today we’d like to introduce you to Violette Meier.
Hi Violette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a happily married mother, writer, folk artist, poet, aspiring herbalist, and native of Atlanta, Georgia, who earned my B.A. in English at Clark Atlanta University and a Masters of Divinity at the Interdenominational Theological Center.
As the great-granddaughter of a dream interpreter, I am a lover of all things supernatural and love to write paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, and horror. I started writing poetry at twelve, then graduated to short stories in high school and college, and finished my first novel more than a decade ago.
I am always working on something new. A matter of fact, I’m extremely excited about my thirteenth book “Oracles” which will be released next month. The book release party will be at Kat’s Cafe in midtown Atlanta on June 23rd from 6pm-8pm. I hope to see you there!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After the task of writing, one must get the story that was birthed deep in the soul and imagination out into the world. That is the difficult part; to stand above all the noise, to find your market, to find your faithful tribe. It takes dedication, hard work, and faith to just keep on creating.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known as a speculative writer who specializes in writing supernatural thrillers focusing on African American characters and diversity. My books dabble in religion, mythology, folklore, and the supernatural in general. My goal is to thrill, chill, entertain, and help people visualize the worlds that I create.
I am most proud when I complete a novel. There is no better feeling in the universe. To see all the time, effort, and imagination it took to translate my mental images onto paper come to fruition is my idea of heaven. I fall in love with each story that I write and can’t wait to share it with the world. I pray that the world will fall in love with them too.
My books include: Out of Night, Angel Crush, Son of the Rock, Archfiend, Ruah the Immortal, Tales of a Numinous Nature: A Short Story Collection, Hags, Haints, and Hoodoo: A Supernatural Short Story Collection, Loving and Living Life, Violette Ardor: A Volume of Poetry, This Sickness We Call Love: Poems of Love, Lust, and Lamentation, and two children’s books. My newest book Oracles will be available next month on Amazon and VioletteMeier.com.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Life is about taking risks. The worst thing a person can be told is “no” so just step out on faith and let the cards fall where they may. Life is too short and time too precious to allow fear to prevent you from taking risks. Creating is taking a risk. It is putting something near and dear to your heart out into the world for people to praise or tear to pieces. Just do it. If it fails, at least you were brave enough to try. If you succeed, the risk was well worth it. Either way, it’s a win.
