Today we’d like to introduce you to Yong Takahashi.
Hi Yong, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Seoul, South Korea, grew up in Detroit, and have lived in Atlanta since 1993. This mash-up of cultures finds its way into my stories.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I went to school without knowing how to speak English. It was difficult to learn a new language but it was much more difficult to learn a new culture. My memoir, Observations Through Yellow Glasses, follows my journey as I learned to juggle my traditional home life and the modern world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
During the first lockdown, I published my debut book titled The Escape to Candyland. Since then, I’ve published two poetry collections. I’m in the process of editing a short story collection and a novel. I also hope to finish writing the first draft of a fantasy trilogy this year.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Be true to myself.
