Hi Candyss, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a Career Transition Coach, I enjoy helping professionals break out of comfort zones and chart new paths for success.
In March of 2014, I got the bright idea to leave my job and move to Atlanta without another job lined up. I had been a Project Manager for two years at a top healthcare IT company and just earned my PMP certification so I thought I’d certainly find a job fast because “everyone would be eager to hire me.” Well, I was wrong. I was out of work for six months and when I finally landed a job, it definitely wasn’t the salary I was expecting. While grateful for the job, I just couldn’t stop thinking, “what went wrong?” I’d soon find the answer through research and networking. It turns out, just as a thought, I was a great candidate – I just didn’t communicate my candidacy well through my resume and LinkedIn. I also had no strategy when it came to my job search. I was just typing “Project Manager + Atlanta” in Google, hoping I’d stumble across the position of my dreams.
Fast forward one year, I used everything I’d learned to land a new job with more authority and much more money. I then shared those techniques with friends and family, helping them secure raises, promotions and new jobs. Once I proved that it wasn’t just a one-off thing that just so happened to work for me, I decided I needed to establish my business, Demand Development. Since starting my business in 2018, I’ve helped clients overcome mindset blocks, find careers they love, secure 5-figure salary increases, create work-life balance, break into completely new fields, and much more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like many of my clients, I tend to struggle with imposter syndrome each time I introduce a new service. In fact, I started out extremely underpricing my services because I struggled with thinking people would really pay for help since I had given it away for free for years. Thankfully, I’ve got a good community of family and friends to remind me of the true value in what I do whenever imposter syndrome tries to creep in! Daily affirmations are also helpful reminders! I’m also a recovering perfectionist. When I first started my business, I delayed launching my Instagram and website because everything wasn’t “just right.” Since then, I’ve switched things up several times because I learned to value progress over perfection. That mindset shift was game-changing for me!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the Career Coach behind the Demand Development brand. While I have a wide array of career coaching and resume services, I specialize in career transitions. I’ve spent the past year diving into the good, the bad and the downright terrifying as it relates to changing careers, and I share it by way of my blog and coaching. I think one of my clients said it best in her testimonial. She said, “Candyss is the type of coach that sees the whole person. The work we’ve done has impacted me personally, professionally and spiritually. She is definitely an AMAZING career coach, but she has proven to be so much more than that in my life!” As a coach, I understand that a career is only one aspect of your life, so I make sure to consider the other aspects as we plan your future career. I’m most proud of the fact that over two-thirds of my business has come by way of referrals. This signifies that not only are people satisfied with the service they’re receiving, they are also compelled to tell others about the service they’ve received, which honestly speaks volumes about the impact Demand Development is making. So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Walking in the assignment. I know God has a calling on my life far greater than what I see in my day-to-day tasks and in order to live that out, I must allow Him to order my steps. It’s an added bonus that I get to help provide others with tools and techniques to confidently walk in their assignment as well!
