Today we’d like to introduce you to Conswella Smith.

Conswella Smith is a Master Cosmetologist-Skin Consultant, Mother, Wife, and Minister in Snellville, Georgia, where she is the Founder and CEO of A Queen’s Essentials, Organic Soaps and Natural Body Products, leaving the corporate world on faith as a Technical Support Analyst in 2015. She studied at the Dekalb County School of Cosmetology, where she then became licensed in 1999. She then went on to become a skin consultant in formulating her own natural skincare inspired by her own family’s trials in recurring skin conditions such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, and rosacea. She then also became a licensed Minister at New Life Church of Lithonia in 2017. Her accreditations include Best of Gwinnett 2018, Among the Best 2018, and Ones to Watch 2019 for A Queen’s Essentials. She was also featured in the Special Speakers Edition, Leadership T.K.O Magazine in March 2019. She continues to stay involved with the community in her commitment to homeless shelter, Hagar’s House in her native location, Decatur, Georgia.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely not a smooth road. The phrase “stepped out on faith” is what exactly happened. After quitting my corporate job, I had nothing saved, nothing created, collaborators, investors, or anything when I started my business. I simply made use of all of the resources I had at home, then hitting the streets in promoting my products the ole school way. To keep the bills paid and food on the table I did things like visited pantries, drove Uber, and gave plasma.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about A Queen’s Essentials?
Founder, Owner, and Skincare Consultant of A Queen’s Essentials Organic Soaps and Natural Body Products. Our soaps are certified by the USDA Agriculture. This means that there are no herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or harsh dyes. All of our products are made with natural ingredients. We sell bath and beauty products certified by the USDA’s National Organic Program, which means exceeding the minimum of 80% organic content without counting water or salt. They include handmade body butters, scrubs, facial care, lotions, body washes, and more. We specialize in re-occurring skin additions such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and dermatitis. We also encourage those who are simply wanting to enhance their skin the natural way. I have a family history of re-occurring skin conditions. Nothing over the shelves worked. They caused break-outs, allergic reactions, and not to mention frustrations and insecurities.

As a master Cosmetologist, I was determined through studies in our derma to go back to our roots with finding natural ingredients to heal our skin. As an entrepreneur and businesswoman of color, our appearance and confidence is everything in representing the powerful women within our industries that we are. Commonly now, women are now going through hormonal changes starting in their (Mid) the thirties producing acne not only to your forehead, nose and chin from your younger youth. The causes can be confusing, but they include intolerances, sensitivities, and many other things. Are reactions also very unpredictable right? I did not develop re-occurring skin conditions due to allergies until after I turned 30! We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is something that you find through endurance. This means going through it mentally, physically, and emotionally by putting in everything that you got and being ok with the failures that come along with it. The ability to learn and trust the process in knowing that it’s ok to ask for help along the way. I had to realize I could not achieve this alone, but with many influential and smart brothers and sisters behind me. Doing your best and becoming your best.
