Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Earley.
Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my hair journey by creating Allure By Lexx as a 16-year-old sophomore in high school. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a cosmetologist and run my own salon one day. This has never just been a hustle for me. I grew up doing my doll’s hair as a kid and pretending to be in a salon environment. I always knew how to do my own hair by watching what my mother would do to my hair. Once I got old enough, I taught myself everything I knew because I knew how I liked my own head done. Once people seen how I did my own hair they would ask me to do theirs and that’s how it took off.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has always been up and down for me. At first, people would expect more from me than just “doing hair”. My mother would complain and say the only thing I’d be focused on is doing my hair or doing other people’s heads when I was still a minor. There were times when I wasn’t so confident in myself and would give up on my craft. There were times when I wasn’t booked and would feel bad, and there were times when I had multiple bookings and wanted to keep going. Every time I strayed away from this dream I always knew it was for me because I just couldn’t just take my focus off of anything related to hair.
We’ve been impressed with Allure By Lexx, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Allure By Lexx provides hair services such as quickweaves, sew-ins, braids, and etc… What sets me apart from others is that I’m a traveling stylist. Most times people hate to leave their homes, so during the pandemic I implemented traveling in my services for an extra fee. The convenience of coming to a client definitely opens up a new target audience. I want readers to know that Allure By Lexx has given me so many opportunities to show off my craft and believe in myself when nobody else did.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel like discipline plays a huge part in becoming successful in anything you do. I had to discipline myself to stay consistent to get the results I wanted and that’s for my business as well as my personal life goals. You have to tune out any distractions and focus on what you want out of life for yourself.
