Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonisha Hicks.
Hi Antonisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Extraordinaire Affairs has always been deep down inside of me. I feel like it was my destiny to start my business. As a child I have always been creative. I would always make something out of nothing. I’d make my own toys and doll houses out of cereal boxes and moving boxes. I’ve always had love for crafting and that love only grew bigger into my adulthood. In 2019 I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and I was having a baby shower. I created all of the decorations for my baby shower. A year later in March of 2020 it was my daughter’s first birthday and I wanted to be EXTRA so I decided to make her some chip bags and other party favors. I ended up posting pictures of her party on Facebook and I began to receive a lot of messages of people asking who made the party favors. I told them that I made them and they asked if I could make them some. I never really thought about starting my own business until that moment. About six months later, I quit my job and decided to make Extraordinaire Affairs official!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a business owner, it’s very rare for everything to go smooth. There are days where you’re discouraged because you’re not getting any orders in and because sometimes promoting yourself in the right way is hard. At the start of my business, I tended to get discouraged a lot because some weeks, I’d be very slow and others would be pretty busy. I always try to stay positive in those times and remind myself that everyday is someone’s birthday and if I don’t get an order today, I’ll for sure get one soon. Social media plays a big part in my business and at the start of my business I didn’t have much content to post because I didn’t have that many orders so I’d sometimes do little orders for family members and friends to post to promote my work. Overall I’d say it’s been a kind of bumpy road but I try to remain positive and remember that what is for me will always and forever be for me.

Extraordinaire affairs is an event servicing business. We strive to make every event memorable and “Extraordinary”! Our goal is to give every event an “Out of This World” Experience. We specialize in all of your custom needs. Including Apparel, Party Favors, Treats, Designs, and More! What sets us aside from others is that we genuinely love to see our customers happy so we make sure that in our work, we make their dreams come true by bringing them to life. We want to make happy long-lasting memories for each and every one of our clients. We are most proud that we have never had an unhappy customer each and every one of our customers have always been pleased with the end results that they receive. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me the happiest is my customers. They’re always coming to me with new things to try, and they always trust me with their most important events. My business also makes me happy because in my work, I feel like I get to be myself and unleash my creative side.
