Today we’d like to introduce you to Candenetra Moore.
Hi Candenetra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In grade school, I was so sure that I would be an anesthesiologist by the age of 30. Today, I am 27 years old and proud to say that I am not an anesthesiologist, but the founder and CEO of Ratchet Nerd Group, a web design agency that focuses on empowering small business owners on the worldwide web.
I used to stress a lot about what I would be “when I grow up,” especially while attending college. It took a total of seven years and changing my major three times before finally settling on obtaining a degree in Mathematics. I am well-versed in many subjects and my greatest passion is to learn new things, so I had no clue of what career path I wanted to take. I felt (and still feel) like it was just too many options for a person open to learning and exploring new things every day. Now that I am a business owner, I get to wear many hats and get to learn from other people’s experiences, as well as my own.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Building the Ratchet Nerd Group brand has actually been a smooth journey, mainly because the brand name speaks for itself. My biggest obstacle so far has been time management as a small business owner still trying to secure an income to support my life and lifestyle. This is why I’m so adamant about making sure business owners are aware of the technology they could be using to make their lives easier.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Not only do we build websites at Ratchet Nerd Group, but we also offer a wide range of writing and graphic design services for students and any individual that could use the help of a nerd. I love building websites and writing, but my most important work is rooted in educating individuals on how to use social media to their marketing advantage and how to use various applications for their business operations. I firmly believe that the world is going to be much more advanced in technology within the next 10 years and many of the ways businesses have been operating could become more trouble than they’re worth. Businesses that solely depended on storefront operations suffered tremendously during the COVID-19 pandemic; this was confirmation that more business owners needed to be more equipped to navigate the world wide web to continue operating under extenuating circumstances. There is a possibility that everyone could lose access to the internet one day, which has always been a thought buried deep into the back of my mind; however, I choose to ride this wave while technology is still quickly and consistently advancing.
I intend to own multiple businesses, but Ratchet Nerd Group is the one I hope to build an empire with. Before I knew that I wanted to build a web design agency, I was already claiming to be a Ratchet Nerd. I would be considered ratchet to many people in the professional world, but I also considered a Nerd to the ratchets. There are so many people like myself that fit into this category and need to know that you can be successful while being exactly who you want to be. At Ratchet Nerd Group, we value personality and proficiency over professionalism. This means that we do not care to “code switch” for anyone as long as we continue to deliver amazing service with skill. I thrive when I am provided the space to be 100% myself and I encourage small business owners to be the same way.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My best advice for networking would be to attend events, go outside, and put your best foot forward at all times. When you are presenting yourself and your brand, people are going to be drawn to support you by the way your face lights up when you talk about your vision. So, be confident in your brand and be confident in your abilities. There aren’t too many people out there willing to support you more than you support yourself, so always keep that in mind. I have never had a mentor so I can’t speak on how anyone would go about finding one, but I actually feel like I could reach a new level of success if the right person took me under their wing.
