Exploring Life & Business with Earah Harris of TreatsPhoria Baked Goods and Sweets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Earah Harris.

Earah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The gift has always been there as I’ve been baking since I was 8 years old. My mother Sarah was a home baker and always had Wilton catalogs in the house. I loved to study them. She saw my interest and assisted me with baking cakes and cookies from her oven. She even helped me to win first place ribbons for taste and presentation in my middle school baking contest!

In high school, I received my diploma in Entrepreneurship with a focus in Accounting and Business Management. In college, I obtained a degree in Graphic Design.

For years, I created cookies, cakes, cupcakes and candies for my family, friends and coworkers. Early in 2012, my family recommended that I seriously consider baking as a profession. To better prepare for this business endeavor, I asked God if I should even do this. Years ago, I had a graphics business that failed and I did not want that to happen again. He gave me His approval and I then sought out chefs, cake instructors and businesspeople to mentor me.

I also have Wilton and other companies’ decoration and Food Management certificates and stay current with continuing education to keep my abilities sharp. I am mindful of maintaining a balance of the traditional methods and the latest trends in baking. With the help of God, family, coworkers, and friends, TreatsPhoria Baked Goods and Sweets was founded in 2017, began to flourish in 2020 and is still doing well today!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh no, I don’t think it is a smooth road for any entrepreneur.

For three years, I wondered when it would be my turn. Would the business be profitable? Would I succeed in finding my own point of view and unique offerings? How do I stack up to the competition? Will I ever get to sleep!?

One of my biggest challenges is work-life balance. I always aim to please and provide top notch customer service. That means I am regularly up and in the kitchen before dawn and in bed well past dusk, pouring my heart and soul into my client’s desserts.

I’ve learned to stay focused and in my own lane; have patience; and value community over competition, feeling pride in others who are in the same field with me.

I also pray to God to keep my sanity and help me to stay calm in every situation and handle them professionally. I’m just grateful that He has been there with me every step of the way because I surely couldn’t do this alone!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
TreatsPhoria is a privately owned online business under the Georgia Food Cottage license offering contactless curbside pickup and delivery and exceptional customer service. We are located in Lawrenceville, and serve Gwinnett County and surrounding metropolitan Atlanta cities.

Although we also make cookies and cupcakes, we specialize in making euphoric artisan cakes. We are unique in everything that we make – it is GOOD! We use gourmet ingredients to create exceptional flavor and texture, and we spend the extra time necessary to perfect each piece before it leaves the kitchen.

Most of our clients are repeat customers and love their experiences with both us and their desserts. Once you have TreatsPhoria’s items you won’t find anyone like us!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you have a dream and want to pursue it, go for it! You are your best cheerleader and sometimes you will have to tell yourself to start and continue, no matter how good or bad the situations are or if nobody seems to be rooting for you- YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU WILL MAKE IT. Keep going through the process because it is rewarding; you’ll see!

Once you decide to jump in, be a sponge. I can’t speak for all industries, but I know that the sweets community is such a supportive amazing group who truly want to help you succeed.
