Today we’d like to introduce you to Issac Cruz.
Hi Issac, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After working every position at a restaurant in Vinings, I decided to change it up, it was either working on cars or houses, so I started doing granite/quartz countertops for lowes, home depot and sears as a sub. After about 1 and half years, I changed it up again… To do custom cabinets and any carpentry work, learned a lot in 1 year that I was there, but you already know had to change it up again… And went to pronto home repairs, where I got most of my handyman skills and bettered my communication. After 1 year I got laid off, still waiting for an answer why, but that pushed me on to starting my own business. And so I did Cruz Renovations was established 2018. I started doing turnkeys for Zillow, first-key homes and other properties managements. Slowly started posting my working on Instagram, and letting me work speak for itself is what started to bring me more customers, so now I am doing lvp or tile floors, custom cabinets, countertops, backsplash and my favorite walk-in showers. Something I always said get a job that you love and enjoy that when your doing it doesn’t feel like work, and that’s where I’m at. Every house/job is different and challenges me everyday and that what i like about it, aside the fact that when I’m done, I take a step back a say “wow, I did that” I truly shock my self after finishing a project.
Gives me more motivation to keep pushing and reaching more and bigger jobs, and a lot ask well how was it for you when covid hit, well that changed a lot of us some for the better and others took the downfall, me I kept pushing and thinking on the bright side but work slowed down for couple of weeks and had to find a way. My mom, brother and I talked about selling food on the weekends and so we did not know on the outcome we still went for it, on April oh 2020 chef smokey was created started selling birra with rice and beans, and the amount of support we got was unbelievable we sold out every weekend and was going great. But also, I was starting to get calls and inquiries to convert a room into and office space now that a lot of people started working from home. So I go and started making office spaces and building desks/office chairs. So there I was getting business back going and selling food and Michiladas on the weekends. One thing about me is that I always willing to help the community or others in need from fundraising for funeral cost-free kids haircuts with the normal barbershop and drinks on me for the parents. Feeding the homeless with friends, im that type of person it comes from the heart I do it because I want help, ‘Todo de corazon, porque hoy aqui estamos pero manana no se sabe.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Its been a Rollercoaster, You’ll have your ups and downs but it’s all on how you take at and move on is what matters the most when I got laid off Pronto, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, and that’s when I realize that I can make it happen. it just depends on how much I want it. And so I took that step, everything was going great until covid hit I really thought that was it until the calls came in and emails coming in from left to right and felt the blessing that I was hoping for, since then it’s been going good.
We’ve been impressed with Cruz Renovations, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well, it’s a solo man crew most of the time, for bigger projects I’ll have my brother or friends help me out, but I tend to do all of the work myself just because I want it to speak for itself, that way then when visitors go over and see my work you’ll gladly recommend them to me because of the great experience and work that I did. Also, another important thing to me is getting direct contact on whoever is doing the work, I’m the one giving the estimates and also does the work, so if any changes or questions, customers always like that they can contact me directly and not having to deal with 2-5 different contractors. As well for a full Kitchen Renovation, I will cover everything for start to finish Floors, Cabinets, Countertops, Backsplash, Under cabinets lights, etc… in the other hand some companies will hire four different crews and will have to make sure they come right when the next crew is done and that’s just too much sometimes, I offer a complete renovation that way you wouldn’t have to find other contractors to do others things, On IG in CruzRenovation Follow Share and support. For any of your home needs or advice.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Youtube is my go-to. When I’m stuck or just want to make sure I’m going the right path, Seeing others do it first and looking and different ways on doing things gives me a better idea and confidence on doing the work. The most important thing to have at a job site is music that gets me flowing better and concentrated. See the success in others around me always pushing me to do better, even podcasts with uplifting quotes or motivational talk is needed to get the extra boost you need to get the day through.
