Exploring Life & Business with Katie Greiner-Francis of Birdie’s Bone Broth For Pets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Greiner-Francis.

Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you so much for the invite. I’m so happy to be able to share my story with y’all. When our first pup was diagnosed with osteoarthritis/elbow dysplasia – I decided to research and find out what I can do, to help with his arthritis. Sadly, osteoarthritis is a progressive, degenerative disease which causes inflammation of the joints with no cure and it affects about 20% of dogs no matter their age. I already started our 3 pups on a raw diet so food wasn’t an issue. I discovered that supplements became an important factor and I found that bone broth is a wonderful addition for pups with arthritis and/or skin issues. We also have a pup who had a severe case of Demodex Mange and bone broth did wonders with her path to healing. Our 3rd pup suffers from seasonal hot spots and I find that bone broth is excellent for them as well.

I am a one-woman show that really takes pride in knowing that I can be a part of your pet’s journey to health and healing with my handcrafted bone broth and raw goat milk kefir. I take orders weekly and make deliveries early Saturday morning, leaving it at your doorstep. Recently, I added all-natural treats that can be shipped in the US.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think as a small business there will always be obstacles and bumps along the way. You have so many hats to wear that oftentimes it’s a juggling act. COVID made an impact. I was accepted as a vendor for Community Farmers Market but had to back out. My husband and I are still “newbies” as Georgians. We moved down here in 2016 so getting familiar with people, places & things has also been challenging which ties into networking and getting the word out about your business. Also, the business moved to a different location in Georgia just this year so there are challenges to that as well.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I make hand-crafted bone broth, goat milk kefir and all-natural treats for your pets. Quality is of utmost importance. All my ingredients are sourced in the US where animals are treated humanely and I stay away from industrial agriculture “farming”. What makes my business unique is that I also offer convenience along with a great product that I can stand behind and be proud of. I deliver to my local customers weekly. I know pet owners are concerned about their furry one’s health and life can also get incredibly hectic. This is one less thing that my customers have to think about.

How do you define success?
Business-wise, a satisfied customer. Personally – a balance between work and play
