Today we’d like to introduce you to Monte Moore.
Hi Monte, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally, I am from New Orleans, LA. I came here to Georgia as an evacuee during hurricane Katrina. I was about six years old, it was my birthday and I was just turning seven. (Katrina occurred on my birthday, August 29, 2005.) After the hurricane, I never went back, I grew a liking to Georgia as a young girl.
As I got older, I became very popular here in Georgia. I made a lot of friends, I was always going out, I modeled, did video shoots, I cheered in middle school. I discovered that I could sew and when I was about 16 or 17, I started designing clothes and selling custom clothing.
As I matured, I grew in my relationship with God and he revealed a lot of things to me about myself that I never really knew. Some of which were talents that were lurking around and I never even considered. I started painting, making wigs, doing all kinds of arts and crafts things. I spent so much time alone, he gave me an entire business plan and an entire layout for my future. No one would ever believe me, but it’s true. And over time, God gave me a passion and a heart for ministry and serving others.
So I started using my talents for good, to give back to others. When I first started making wigs, I would always give mine away or install them for free on my mom’s friends. And I even tried starting up a GoFundMe to raise money to make wigs for homeless patients (that didn’t work out though), but it didn’t stop me either.
God gave me the idea for a ministry that is designed to help others who are struggling. This idea was given to me almost four years ago, and I am finally moving forward with it. This is how “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Ministries Co.” came to be. It is now a nonprofit corporation. I expect for this ministry to grow to help thousands of people, maybe even millions. With God, all things are possible, and this is only the beginning.
Not only this, but I own a Fitness and Nutrition business, which I include meal prep as an option. This was definitely something that God had given me cause it was never something I saw myself doing. This business is called “Fearful Fitness and Nutrition LLC.” Fearful has a second definition which is “very great.” It goes hand in hand with Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Ministries. I don’t quite know how fully, but both names came from the Bible chapter Psalms: 139:14
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What’s a smooth road? Haha, no, this definitely has not been a smooth road for me. From social challenges to life challenges, I can say I’ve had my fair share of trials and tribulations. One of those which hindered me a lot was my grandmother’s stroke. It affected me in a way that no one would ever understand. She raised me, and understood me like no one else, when she had the stroke, it was like a part of me left with it! But her soul never changed, she always talks to me like nothing ever happened.
I can say though, I separated from my family due to my own personal growth, I started to see things differently and it left me pretty much with no one, up until I met the father of my child. Her name is Kyomi, and his name is Michael. He has definitely been here through everything, and the both of us lost a lot together.
We are stronger today.
As far as business challenges, I failed a thousand times, a lot of things didn’t work for me. So fighting through uncertainty and discouragement was a huge challenge for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is a nonprofit organization. It is created to help low-income families, homeless communities, provide housing and shelter, food, clothing, and so much more. We want to be involved in the community as much as possible and share the love of God. This world has way too much negativity, and I just want to shine a light on the goodness of God. This organization is just getting started up, so I can say it definitely has a lot of work that needs to be done. But the ultimate goal is to become a full-time ministry.
What distinguishes Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Ministries from others is the fact that this is a one person organization started by one woman, who is 23 years old. No one would ever take me seriously, but that is why God is going to be the one who makes this organization successful.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to those who are just starting out is to never depend on anyone to get you to where you need to be. Too often, we put our dreams in the hands of others, they deliver false hope and false promises, and it never really happens the way you expect it.
Never give up, despite what it looks like. Don’t rush. Today, we feel that when we start something, there needs to be instant success. That is definitely not how things work. And I personally thought this is how it worked until I realized that EVERYTHING requires a process. Especially your growth.
If nothings happening, use those times to cultivate your talents, your passions, write in books, plan, and also work on your inner man. That’s what matters most. Some of us are given too much responsibility before we are ready, and it causes us to lose everything. Don’t be that person.
Oh and trust God with your dreams. He gives us all good things and the desires of our hearts.
