Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Marque | The Launching King.
Nicholas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I began my journey in entrepreneurship when I was a senior in college. I started an event planning business and thought I was going to be this big-time event planner in Miami right off of the bat. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening. In turn, I actually felt stuck. I had a vision of what I wanted, but, I had no clue what I was doing. For the life of me, I felt like I couldn’t crack the code of getting clients, generating revenue, and making my dream happen.
I felt like I had a wake-up call and made a move to ATL. I wanted to be where other successful black people were. I thought, “surely, if this is black Hollywood I can easily make it there!” Nope–instead, I found myself working as a server, in the trenches! This was my rock bottom moment. I had to take cold showers, and eviction notices on the door and I had lost focus on my business altogether.
It wasn’t until I made some shifts not only in my business and mindset but in my life. I switched up the people in my tribe. I began adding mentors and coaches who were further along in their journey than I was at the time. I began to study fortune 500 companies and how they were running their businesses. I began deconstructing their marketing methods and sales strategy. It’s almost as if an instant shift happened in my business. I started attracting big-name clients that paid me with their time, attention, and money (that cash)!
Now we fast forward to now and I now help other entrepreneurs and small business owners do the same. What I enjoyed the most when I was event planning was working with my fellow small business colleagues on their launch events. I would oftentimes double as their event planner and business consultant because I had already made the mistakes and done it the wrong way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. I think my biggest struggle was my mindset and getting in my own way. Starting out as a new entrepreneur I thought that I had to have everything “perfect” before launching and really getting out there. I also thought that I wasn’t qualified to charge what I wanted for my services. I also allowed my fear and doubt to get in the way of me moving my business and life forward which led to intentional procrastination.
Those struggles lead me to learn three important lessons that I coach with all of my clients:
1. Perfect does NOT exist. You don’t need to get it perfect. You need to get it out there!
2. People buy because of two reasons. Those reasons are because you eliminate pain or you provide pleasure. That’s it! When you know what that is coupled with providing a solution (product or service) that can deliver on that. Then, you will unlock a door you didn’t even know was there!
3. In spite of fear and doubt, push through anyhow! Success, growth, and the next level lie in the realm of uncomfortability. If you’re too comfortable you’re not growing, and if you’re not growing then you are stagnant and in your own way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Now, I’ve launched a new business, CEO Mentality, and Nicholas Marque Coaching. Over the last few years, my team and I have helped dozens of entrepreneurs successfully launch and grow their ideas into a profitable businesses, then scale so they can experience the ultimate freedom of time, energy, and money!
I created a group coaching program called From Passion 2 Profit as well as provide 1 on 1 coaching and consulting services. We are preparing to launch a membership community where we can provide even more training, tools, and resources for entrepreneurs looking to launch, grow and scale their businesses beyond their wildest dreams.
I get to wake up every day and provide a blueprint for my peers. Then, I get to watch them use the strategies and techniques that I gave them and turn their dreams into reality. I absolutely love what I do and can honestly say that THIS is my passion!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
To be honest, what I love the most about Atlanta is the saturation of black excellence! It’s everywhere! There is this sense of possibility, opportunity, and determination to thrive and live your best life here that I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
What I like least is the traffic. Good lord, there’s a lot of traffic (haha)
