Exploring Life & Business with Stephanie Jacobs of SBS Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Jacobs.

Hi Stephanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I originally went to the University of Georgia as an interior design major. Unfortunately, I quickly realized I did not love the program which involved a lot of t-squares and writing in blocks on graph paper. It was lacking the creativity that I desperately needed in my life. I switched majors to a BFA in drawing/painting and art education. When I graduated in 2006, I taught for seven years in public schools and loved what I did. However, when our school moved to a larger school, I was teaching 800 students on a $200 budget. Once having my first child, I needed a break and was fortunate to be in a position to take time off. I quickly realized I was once again lacking that creative outlet that I needed in my life. My friend who happens to be a realtor encouraged me to become a stager. She was using a stager at the time she also put my home on the market and I wasn’t in love with the work they did. So she challenged me to do a better job. She didn’t think I would take her seriously, but I did. I joined the local chapter of the Real Estate Staging Association and began working hard to create connections with local realtors and build a portfolio. My business quickly grew and I was asked if I could also help with decorating and renovation. Since starting my business in 2017, my business has grown by a lot.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think owning a business will always have bumps in the road. The economy, unrest in the world and country all have an effect on a business and especially a business that focuses on the home industry. Issues with supply chain, trucker shortages, fuel prices, and the ups and downs of the real estate market all have repercussions on my business.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SBS Designs excels in residential interior design for renovations or a refresh of your current space. SBS Designs will create a cohesive and styled look for your home.

We also specialize in occupied and vacant home staging with a goal of creating a neutral environment that is attractive to buyers and gives sellers a competitive edge.

Our company is known for great customer service, innovative designs, knowing the market, and creating spaces that people love.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Listening, being organized, and responsive. I pride myself on these three characteristics, which I think create a successful business. There are plenty of creative designers in the Atlanta area. However, if you don’t listen and you’re not organized and responsive, the chances of referrals are slim.
