Hidden Gems: Meet Linda McIver of AgeBlu at 2UMedical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda McIver.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Watching my mother fight a losing battle with cancer when she was just 48 years old was the motivation to seek a career in healthcare. At age 21 I became an RN and worked in the intensive care unit in-between years of being a stay-at-home mom. When I was 39, I went back to graduate school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner, and in 2012, I started my own concierge medical house call practice 2UMedical. A modern rendition of the old-fashioned house call, 2UMedical grew organically into a larger concierge medical practice with an emphasis on functional medicine. 2UMedical, based in Buckhead, is in its 10th year of serving residents of Atlanta and visitors of Georgia through the film industry. Just prior to the COVID pandemic, in 2019, I completed my functional medicine fellowship and became credentialed through the American Board of Anti-Aging Health Practitioners. Turning 50 towards the beginning of the COVID pandemic re-directed my personal focus towards longevity. Watching the death tolls rise and reconnecting with the feeling of loss that I had experienced at age 16 when my mother passed led me to focus even more on wellness and longevity. Studying Blue Zones became a passion and the inspiration for developing this platform for wellness. ÂgeBlu was formed from the desire to share what I’ve learned with others who want to live longer and better.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my challenges has been to re-educate people on how simple basic healthcare can be. If the word count allows, I might add a sentence here elaborating on what you mean by basic healthcare. i.e. Diet and exercise are the basis of healthy living, but so much healthcare is preventive. The mission statement at 2UMedical from day one has been “simplifying the delivery of healthcare and promoting wellness.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about AgeBlue at 2UMedical?
Longevity medicine goes beyond traditional preventative medicine, which aims to prevent disease, and additionally strives to keep the patient functioning at optimal performance. Utilizing my four principles of longevity: 1) promoting detoxification, 2) boosting your immune system, 3) supporting nutrient and hormone optimization and 4) enhancing your body’s function, ÂgeBlu is a mind/body lifestyle for living longer and living well. From maintaining a healthy gut to managing stress levels to peptide therapy for enhancing physical performance, ÂgeBlu is a resource for any age because, as I believe, “you are never too young to think about aging well”.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Every problem has a solution – that’s my mantra. During the pandemic, I saw the impact of a personalized wellness regimen and how it makes us stronger and more resilient. Being proactive with your health with a personalized wellness regimen, as well as managing stress, prepares your body and mind to better handle illness. Early in COVID our elderly patients with significant co-morbidities who had COVID did not require hospitalization. We were able to manage them at home with an East meets Western medicine approach utilizing prescribed medications, oxygen therapy, peptides and supplements.

We have been treating long-haul COVID with much success as well, utilizing our personalized approach for optimizing wellness.
