Hidden Gems: Meet Millicent Branham of Stella Love Non-Profit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Millicent Branham.

Hi Millicent, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from Accra, Ghana. When I was young, I lost both my parents. I lost my father when I was 15 years old and my mother when I was 10 years old. I came to the United States at the age of 25 which is around the same time I had my son. I moved around frequently in the states. I moved from New Jersey to Kentucky to Ohio, then I currently live in Georgia. I moved to Georgia because I wanted a fresh start. I had lived in Ohio for more than 10 years and I wanted to experience something new.

At first, I went to cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell The School Esani, while I worked overnight. So I would be going to school during the day then immediately going to work right afterwards. After graduating, however, I realized that cosmetology was not the career I wanted to follow. I wanted to be an author. So, I wrote an autobiography about my life called There’s Freedom In Your Truth in 2019. I went through lots of financial struggles and received help from a charity organization. I saw how many people were going through the same struggle I was going through. Single parents, children, the homeless and more. I wanted to help people who have experienced similar issues in my life. So, with the help of my friends, I started creating Stella Love Non-Profit. Stella Love Non-Profit began around the start of 2021. We would prepare food and toiletries which are basic hygiene necessities then give them to the homeless. We would also give groceries to parents who request help. This was the beginning of my path to helping people who desperately needed. Eventually, I hope to expand my help to those event beyond the United States.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was indeed not a smooth road. I went through various financial struggles along the way. Sometimes it got so severe, I was threatened with eviction a few times. I had to receive help from charity organization such as North Fulton Community Charities as well as from friends. It was a very long process trying to get my Non-Profit started as well. Several legal processes that very long time to complete and needed documents that I had not received yet, so I would have to constantly keep up with everything. It was a hassle trying to keep everything organized.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Stella Love Non-Profit?
Stella Love NON-PROFIT is an organization that I founded in 2021. What we do is we help those who are in desperate need of help. For example, we help the homeless in downtown Atlanta by providing them food, clothes, and toiletries (basic hygiene necessities) every last Sunday of each month. We also provide groceries to single parents who request help. We also help people internationally by sending food to countries like the Gambia. We give school supplies to children in the States as well as internationally (i.e., Belize). We had done mission trips and plan to do more mission trips to foreign countries. What we are proud of is that we are able to consistently give people hope and security that they can depend on Stella Love NON-PROFIT whenever they are struggling. In the future, we hope to expand our aid to various states in America and multiple foreign countries. Another plan is to build an orphanage to help children who have no place to go and help them complete their education so they have a chance of making a better life for themselves.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I have previously fostered children before. So, I feel like me having that experience makes my goal of wanting create a place for children to grow up and have an educated as well as successful life more personal. If anyone is interested, you can visit our website: www.iamstellalove.com or www.stellalovepublishing.com. You can sign up to volunteer to Feed the Homeless, watch my Tea Time videos where I invite various guest speakers to talk about topics like relationships, marriage, death, and more. You can also read my blog posts, donate clothing, buy from my online store, and many more things that allow you can become more involved in Stella Love Non-Profit or StellaLove Publishing. One last thing, I have a children’s book called Weep Not My Child is about understanding grief and death in a family. All proceeds from that book goes to the Non-Profit, so we can continue to provide food and resources to the homeless as well as single parents.

If it were not for God being my guide, Stella Love Non-Profit would not have been possible to create. With God all things are possible. If I was able to come from a completely different country,to create this non-profit, and impact lives, then I know that God can guide anyone who wants to help others to do the same. And anyone who is going through trials and tribulations in life, they can put their trust in God and he can deliver them.
