Hi Stevie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
SamCol by Hicks™️ was inspired by my children at a very dark time in her life. At the time, I was insistently trying to cope with postpartum depression while trying to balance being a wife, mother and an educator during the pandemic. Not only is SamCol by Hicks in some aspects a savior for me; it is a way to translate my love and commitment to the black community and the culture of growing up in Los Angeles into something tangible and sacred.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The balance act between wife, mother, daughter, friend, educator and entrepreneur is not easy. I’ve dealt with severe postpartum depression and anxiety but having a business that reveals my passion has helped tremendously. The hardest struggle I’ve faced as a business owner is finding time.
Finding time for family, friends and myself. It’s all a balancing act that I have yet to master. However, everyday I choose myself and family – everything else can wait.
