Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Hester.
Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story is really one of hope and restoration. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 1998 with my two kids. At the time, I had recently divorced and was just looking to raise my kids and get my life together.
It took a series of toxic relationships before I really got serious about confronting the pain from my childhood and failed relationships. As I began to heal in these areas, I found confidence building within myself and I sought to better myself through both reading various books on prayer, inner healing, etc. and enrolling in ministry school. I also received my ordination in ministry.
In 2010, I started Flaming Heart Ministries and began having gatherings that spoke to some of the issues that we face as women, helping to build confidence and worth. I later volunteered for different causes, taught Bible study at Salvation Army, helping women coming out of commercial sex trafficking.
I began to learn how to help others heal from emotional pain. That season of my life was one of the most rewarding and it was a true turning point for me. As I continued to grow in helping men and women walk in greater levels of freedom for their lives, things shifted a bit.
At the time, I had not realized it, but my coaching and counseling services had began way before I knew it would turn into a business. People would seek me out for advice and I would help them process through their problems and the situations that perplexed them.. It wasn’t until January 2019 that I opened the virtual doors of On Point Life Coaching. Though I’m based in Tucker, I have been able to help individuals walk in a greater level of healing and peace all over the world.
My heart, from the start, has been to help people overcome fears, depression and feelings of unworthiness. I believe this was my passion because I walked through many of the very obstacles that I help people overcome. I have dealt with what it feels like to have low self-esteem, feelings of rejection and the whole gambit of negative thinking. So, I understand the damage that these issues can cause and have made it my focus to help individuals heal and move forward with purpose and confidence!
I have been in the ministry now for over 20 years. I’m the author of Healed By Love: A Journey Into Healing From Your Past and a Board Certified Christian Counselor, pastor and speaker.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Let’s just say, “Life happens to us all.” I believe we sometimes need the bumps along the road to help us move into where we need to be. The obstacles can become the catalyst for our next breakthrough. So it is with my business. As I shared earlier, I started On Point at the top of 2019, a year before Covid struck. Yet, by the spring of 2019, my husband had gotten so sick. Needless to say, our finances were impacted. Though I had a few clients, I now had to balance work and home life to care for him. I felt like I was barely keeping afloat, but I maintained a persistence and made it through. Sometimes you have to just push through! My pushing through paid off and my business increased.
I also wrote my book shortly after my husband’s illness!! As with many writers, I had to confront writer’s block, resist the perfectionism monster, miss out on watching my fav TV shows (haha), etc. to complete my writing goals. Fortunately, I had a great coach that helped hold me accountable… (Yes, coaches need coaches too.)
As you know, we’re big fans of On Point Life Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
With On Point Life Coaching, I take a holistic approach to helping my clients accomplish their goals. With my background focusing on inner healing, this is obviously a part of the way I coach. I’m not your average life coach. I’m a freedom coach. We address the belief systems that hinder a person… I help my clients confront their fears, learn how to be their authentic self, improve communication, etc. I offer mentoring opportunities, coaching and counseling services. I work with individuals with varying needs. What sets me apart is my ability to not only listen to my client’s needs but I can relate to what many of them are facing, which provides the level of sensitivity that’s needed to move forward in their healing journey. I do not judge them. My clients feel safe with me and I’m not boasting when I say that. Also, with each of my clients, I’m all about results. I want them to be successful and I partner with them to do just that. I set up a customized strategy plan for my clients. So, they are not receiving information in cookie-cutter form. It’s personal and I’m very proud of that!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is Christmas. I love Christmas!!! My parents always made it a magical time for us. I still recall our multi-colored Christmas lights blinking on our tree. I’m the oldest of three and we all thought for sure that Rudolf was in our living room. I know it’s silly, but those memories still make me chuckle.
